Need help with DBW install
« on: May 08, 2012, 05:32:23 PM »

I thought I followed instructions- I have IL2 4.101, I installed UP3, no mods enabled in JSGME, then downloaded DBW 1.71 superinstall. When I try to extract it to the IL2 folder though with 7zip, I get a messege saying DBW1.71 can't be extracted as an archive. I'm not too computer savy, so I must have done something wrong, but I don't know what.

If I remember right, you run the part 1 .exe and it will extract everything.

I uninstalled 7zip 4.65 & installed 7zip 9.20 but now when I try to open or extract the superinstall download 7zip says "unspecified error" . Maybe I should try the build 1.1 & see what happens.

The DBW 1.1 part 1 &2 were extracted into the game OK by 7 zip. Maybe this is even more of a newbie question, but does anyone have suggestions what to try next to get the most out of DBW? So far, it's just like IL2 stock.

I shouldn't say it's the same, the background of the opening menu looks different & there are many new planes. I guess I'm not sure yet what differences there are between UP3 & DBW. What is something different ?

JW 1.2 is included for 1 thing. a few new planes also. if you want to get the most out of it, use a lot of fx mods.

"A lot" is an understatement.
Included are more objects, buildings, tools, maps, aircraft, cockpits, 3d (and other) fixes in many places, weapons, new textures, better UI, more realistic AI, etc. etc.
Be sure to look through the JSGME mods, and also add some effects like Gurner's FX Compilation or Plutonium. The FBDSM (F'ing Big Default Skin Mod) is also highly recommended. ;)
Just explore and experiment and see what other nice little surprises you find :)
