To complete this first part of the SCW two-seaters aircraft (I need take a break for the week-end, but next week will see hopefully more surprises) here's one of the symbols of this conflict, an aircraft that stamped its mark on world aviation history - the Breguet 19.
Here too, as for the Potez 25, numerous versions evolved, with various engines and armament.
In Spain the Br19 was present in various versions:
The Lorraine engined Br19 was bought from France in the early 20s then licensed produced, soon with a local version of the Lorraine engine - the Elizade.
Then the aircraft was licensed produced with an Hispano engine that gave it its characteristic nose shape.
The original standard armament included one frontal pilot fixed synchronized Vickers MkI or II, and a double Lewis MkII/III on a TO observer turret (a French version of the Scarff ring). An additional Lewis was included to be used by the observer through a small opening under the rear fuselage, but was generally discarded.
In Spain the frontal gun was generally dismounted, but could be still seen on original Lorraine or Elizade engined aircraft. Later produced Hispano engined aircraft did not usually sport this frontal armament, and often used a British Scarff ring instead of the French TO turret.
A modification of this plane often seen in Spanish skies was built in order to replace the twin Lewis turret by a much more potent Vickers K on a Fairey Fast Gun Mount (identical to the one mounted on the Swordfish).
The bomb load was rather consistant for the period. The fuel load too - as a matter of fact this aircraft was packed with fuel tanks and bombs compartments inside a fuselage made of thin aluminium sheet forward and fabric rearward - one an easily imagine what happened to these planes when shoot at by an enemy fighter, even lightly armed.
Notes:
1) The pilots wear the white "mono" flying suit, typical of pre-civil war Spanish Air Arm, often seen on aircrews in the early phases of the conflict.
2) I have included 3 variants of the cockpit showing various arrangements known to have been used for the windows and gunsight/bombsight, in this aircraft where frontal vision was almost absent due to the upper wing struts arrangements.
2) The Type D Internal vertical bomb rack, with its characteristic protrusion under the fuselage, will not appear on the QMB selection screen, when the suitable armament is selected, but will appear on the model.
3) Similarly the Type F "under fuselage cut" will not be displayed on the QMB but will correctly appear on the model.
