You can double skin1oz.tga's size and still have a 1Mb file by setting it to indexed color mode (8bit max 256 color).
Same goes for all the textures which doesnt use an alpha channel, in indexed color mode you'll lose that channel.
I like this checkered wheel for this plane a lot, will put it into v1b5.

I think it looks nice for both allied airplanes and axis airplanes, and it is historical, so its cool
for all WW1 skins.
I really like that screenshot you took. Your pc is much better than mine, but please throw out that old skin
you are using. Put it in the garbage.
It does not fit into this airplane correct. Use one of my recent made skins for the Siemens-Schukert-D.2.
They fit this airplane much nicer than all other skins.
I still have to post another collection of 25+ skins for this airplane, but I will do it later, because I
want to post some new skins for the Fokker-E and Airco DH-2 for a 1914/1915 air battle this Saturday and Sunday.

This is what I got for v1b5 so far:

-3*new observation balloon versions by SAS_Malone
-2*new cargo ships by Gio
-fixed Se.5a/FokkerDVII exhaust pipe error
-new default skins for Rumpler C.III, Fokker D.VII and Siemens Schueckert D.II

I followed you advice and changed some of the german skins to your updated ones:

But #DBW_1916 was added to 1.6 and its unchanged since so I dont think that the 1.71 hotfix will help.
Did you overwrite anything or did you replace the old folder with the new one?
