No, my readme was blank. but now after reading it, I probably can't use this mod since I don't have jetwar. I'm not understand why modelers lately are making adding jets dependent on jetwar add-on. Can't new planes, jet or not, be independent of jetwar??

Probably not, to my understanding because jetwar has the base files required for alot of the new "jet" and modern-ish era aircraft to work properly in game. It saves having multiple files of the small stuff that would probably cause more headaches for the Moddee as well as the Modder. Someone else with more experience in the area might clear it up for you though.
I guess it'd be like asking for a car without the engine.

No it can't be. Il-2 is a WW2 sim and without some changes to core classfiles it isn't possible to simulate 1950's jets and weaponry properly. Sure could remove all of the supersonic code, the missiles, the custom ejection seats, G-suits and halve of the features but where would be the fun in that? It wouldn't be a fair simulation of this aircraft and might as well fly a F-80 with a Cougar model over the top of it. If you are willing to go to the effort to install this, then it isn't much harder to add JetWar as well.

End of the day, it is up to the modders to make what they like and provide the info to let users install if they wish. As I am the coder for this aircraft, it is staying how it is.

Is there a possibility to get the Template released for this, I know you don't have it Anto, I have contacted the person you referenced, but maybe someone has it and can post it.

Thanks

Hoss

Need some advice on deck landing this sucker, I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that someone was planted at Grumman by the KGB and that the Cougar is infact a rather clever soviet anti-carrier missile... honestly one more duff landing and I'll be awarded the Order of Lenin and made a Hero of the Soviet Union...

I'm experienced in sim deck landings accross multiple sims and many years, no bird has ever given me this much grief. Anything less than 160 knots clean with <30% fuel and full flaps and I can't lower the nose enough to see the deck, anything faster than 150 knots however I will leave my hook in the wires as I shoot off the deck. I've managed two traps so far however both were dumb luck as I can't repeat them, one in the 9J and another in the -8. Kind of dumstruck that the 9J was a trainer.

I've tried long finals whereby I invariably come in too hot in an attempt to maintain visual with the deck, short curved approaches whereby I come in marginally fast and high... more often than not catching the last wire and running out of deck.

I don't mean to knock the model at all, its just my "ham fistedness" I'm sure, but I need some kind of pointers  :-[

Did you open the canopy and raise the seat?................ I know the Panther raises the seat, makes it much easier to land....

make your pattern very short, no long approaches, keep the deck just outside the left hand side of the canopy, the way the RN did it to get the Corsairs on board.

and practice makes perfect.

I've been opening the canopy on the fighters but not on the T bird, had a hunch it would cause a real aerodynamic mess with such a long hood open and from a brief google search it seams the J's did come aboard with the canopy closed. Can't say I'm really aware of any difference in view with the canopy open or closed though.

I have however managed to bring her aboard in one peice 2 more times includig a 3wire in the 9J... Also tore my tail off a good 5 or 6 more, stayed aboard each time though... slowly improving.  :P

Also had a spectacular fatal stall on short finals that should go in a  bluper real, and another poor atempt where I flew in to the starbord hull when trying to go around

Havn't had so much carrier fun since Razbams A-4G and HMAS Melbourne in CFS2

Craig

PS. The seat raise is automatic with canopy animation isn't it? Or have I missed a trick?

No, there is a hotkey for raise seat position in controls....... it does it automatically in the 3D view but not the players view.

In 1950's navy pilots did open canopies before landing their jets, it even was a part of the standard porcedure, so it had to be done. It only changed when upwards opening canopies replaced the siliding ones - but by the time it happened some landing instruments for carrier landing where introduced as well.

As for this jet, yes, it's a bitch to land, mainly because of its actual porperties (it was a bitch IRL too) but also due to tail made of explodium - it has been said that it's impossible to change, so you simply need to stay within pitch limit when hitting deck. Another problem is bugged elevator - that's the reason why I don't fly this plane since it's release. I only keep it AI, while I take myself a Fury, which is correct for roughly the same time period as Cougar. And Fury is so easy to land on carrier that a monkey could do this - actually is one of the best deck fighters in game, maybe even the easiest to land at all, including stock propellors (I still crash Corsairs occasionally but I haven't crashed FJ-3M since I tried it first)
