A redesigned version of the Polikarpov R-5 "Rasante", intended for ground attack rather than for reconnaissance missions, the R-Z "Natacha" was smaller than the R-5, with a more powerful engine driving a two-bladed fixed-pitch propeller. Construction however was lighter than of the R-5 and somewhat weaker. The R-Z saw extensive service on the Republican side of the Spanish Civil War, flying in tight formations and using co-ordinated defensive fire to defend against fighter attack, while returning individually at low levels. The classic tactic was to penetrate the enemy area far away from the target, make a wide circel in order to approach the target coming from "behind" then attack in a slight dive, throwing all bombs in a single salvo, and going ahead fast towards the friendly lines, while tightening the formation - this enabled to reduce the exposure time to anti-aerial fire (the main enemy of the R-Z in Spain) and to discourage adequately any enemy fighter - being confronted to the simulataneuous fire of 12 Shkas was enough to make any enemy fighter think twice. The only time during the SCW when the Natacha forgot this tactic, they fell an easy prey for enemy fighters.
Note:
This aircraft uses the semi-enclosed pilot cockpit generally seen during the SCW - If someone wants however to get the fully enclosed cockpit, the mesh is also included, but you'll ned to activate it in the hier him (Blister2_D0 instead of Blister2B_D0)
