Help cloning a mesh ~SOLVED
« on: December 19, 2009, 03:39:58 AM »

Hi guys I'm in dire need of your help

I'm using a Mesh msh file from Ranwer's RDW-8, already tried contacting him, no go  (@AAA)

the file is located in: \MODS\RWD-8\3do\Cockpit\RWD-8

it's called: map24.msh

that mesh is using a material mat file called: map24.mat

What I need help with is, cloning the map24.msh to any other name so it is reconfigured to look for a different material mat file

ie: map24.msh looks for map24.mat  (original)

I need someone help me make a new file like:

ie: map25.msh that looks for map25.mat (in order to load a different tga file)

I need this because I'm using that mesh twice and I need to display different textures, I tried downloading gmax and the other mesh tools but I can't achieve it I know this could take just a couple of minutes for an expert modder, someone please help :)

regards

Have you tried this?

http://www.allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7473

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but if you can get it to save the .msh in plain format you can change the .mat to whatever you like.

hi mate

Indeed I already tried that

The original mesh msh file comes binaryzed, but when I used the mshconverter I exported the msh file in plain text format

and edited the file manually in notepad, but when I load it to IL-2 it doesn't work :(

Hi,its old problem with Jones converter,it will add [LOD] to all converted meshes so it will looks like this after export to text mesh, this is converted map24.msh:

//Generated by MshReader 1.18 by Dr.Jones       this can be deleted also

[Common]
NumBones 0
FramesType Single
NumFrames 1

[LOD]
this is what cause  problem, no value for LOD distance cause game crash, cockpit meshses dont  need LODs so its not neccesary here, jus delete it and save file.

[Materials]
map24    change into map25 or whatever you want

[FaceGroups]
4 2
0 0 4 0 2 0

[Vertices_Frame0]
0.078125 0.1 0 0 0 1
-0.078125 0.1 0 0 0 1
0.078125 -0.1 0 0 0 1
-0.078125 -0.1 0 0 0 1

[MaterialMapping]
0.9999847 1.525879E-05
1.525879E-05 1.525879E-05
0.9999847 0.9999847
1.525879E-05 0.9999847

[Faces]

I was just about to post what Loku said: Just delete the whole [LOD] part. You dont need a value for it in the cockpit, but having no value there wioll cause the cockpit to not load (light blue screen)
