Guncam Tracers Mod

Guncam Tracers Mod.

This mod will make all tracers look like near as possible of what we see in gun cameras footage.


Features:
- New 3D and textures for all tracers;
- New 3D and textures for shaking effect;
- Four new customizable parameters in conf.ini that you can define the distance in meters that lines start to show instead of 3D tracers:
         TracersPlayer
         TracersAircrafts
         TracersWorld
         TracersWirbelwind
- The max distance that we can see the lines between 4000m and 12000m and considering the inclination of the sun to estimate darkness or brightness.

Installation:
Just put it in your mods folder (#DBW, #SAS, #UP#, etc).
Put the standard values for the distance of the tracers in the mods section of your conf.ini:

TracersWirbelwind=50

These settings control the max distance in meters that you will see the 3D models of tracers, before they change to lines:
TracersPlayer ........ controls the distance of your aircraft's tracers (recomended 400)
TracersAircrafts ..... controls the tracers of others airplanes (recomended 300)
TracersWorld ......... everything's tracers that are not from airplanes (recomended 100)
TracersWirbelwind .. Wirberwind's tracers, just because this AAA fires too much tracers that can affect FPS and some glitches could appear like disappearing smokes, disappearing glass and disappearing propellers (recomended 50)

Known issue:
When in some fog, you can see the reflection of the 3D model, but this happens to the stock tracers too, so it's a bug from the stock IL-2 graphics engine, nothing about this mod.


Thanks to Eexhaton for helping me in exporting and importing the 3D model and sharing some opinions and videos about tracers.

Really want to try these but having issues with mediafire, page times out.

Managed to get a download working, somehow.

Many thanks for this mate, was talking to Gurner about it the other day.

A couple of things out of interest, what engine smoke effects are you using? What mod did you use to get the ship to catch fire with gunfire right at the end of the video?

yeah god spot mate, i would be interested to.

By the way just tried this and it is realy good, like it a lot, only one small thing which i do not think is related to this mod is the visibility distance of tracers in general.

From a distance they are far to visible i think, especially in daylight, you can spot a dogfight from miles away just by the tracer flying around. I think it is the way the game handles it as from close by tracer looks quite small, but from far away it does not seem to stay in scale and appears far larger than at close range.

Personally i would like to see tracer view distance decreased to about 1 km for day time and about 5 km at night to allow for the way the game scales the tracer with distance.

The black engine smoke is from Plutonium.
The blue oil leak smoke is an effect that I tryed to make looking like some guncam videos and some car's videos that I saw, and the fire and explosion on the ship is my version of fire and explosion. 8)
I made the explosion puting an ammo wagon on the ship, so, I hit the ammo wagon and everything goes to the airs, unfortunatelly it only works for static ships. ;)

The fire effect is a simple effect that I did for me some time ago, maybe I can share it soon. :)

In this video we can see a tracer for about 9s:


The muzzle velocity is 890m/s, so, the distance is approximately 8000m.
- The max distance that we can see the lines between 4000m and 12000m and considering the inclination of the sun to estimate darkness or brightness.

12km is less than 2min flying in the direction of the tracers, but the maximum for day light is 8km, maybe there is a bug in the mod, could you test it more, please?

Unfortunately I don't know if we can make the lines more transparent, the lines will appear or disappear instantly.
If there is a way to make the lines more transparent, it is easy to make them disappear slowly according to distance.

I would like to connect this with Gurner FX so simple overwrite files or need more gymnastics ?
