Curtiss H-75A-7

Curtiss H-75A-7

A small costruction batch bought by Netherlands during 1939, but shipped and deployed in Dutch East Indies after Nazi invasion.
The A-7 was powered with the Wright R-1820-G205A Cyclone (1200 hp) and initially armed with a single .50 gun plus three .303, later
standardized in four 0.303 guns. The planes could carry a payload of six 50lb bombs under the wings.
The Dutch Hawks were employed extensively to face the japanese advance.

Nice mods. I've always liked the Hawks very much, ever since the first version of the game I bought.

Thank you very much for this one! One comment, though: the A-7s carried two 50kg bombs, one under each wing, occasionally (as did the Dutch Brewsters), but I don't have any info on the six 50lb bombs. I would very much like to know your source for this armament option.
The single .50 was mounted in the fuselage on the port side, but was quickly replaced with a .30 because the NEI could not manufacture percussion caps for the .50 cal which were sufficiently reliable for use in fuselage guns. Hence the two .30s as the Dutch Brewsters' fuselage guns, and the all-.30 armament of the Interceptors, though Curtiss-Wright strongly recommended fitting at least two .50s to the CW-21Bs the NEI had ordered. The A-7s did not see combat with the .50 as this had been replaced pre-war.

Getting a CTD at 20% with this installed- bummer! Using 4.11.1m with beta mod activator and AutoDiffFM, no probs with planes such as Arsenal VG-33, Caudron C.714 and Bulldog.

Thank you for this nice Bird.
A good opponent for the Ki´s in the early Pacific war.

Interesting info about the bombload, GerritJ9. Really useful for an update. Only a question: what is the correct position of the pylons for 50kg bombs? Thanks!
My source are two old italian aviation magazines. Is mentioned also a payload of 10 12kg bombs for the A-2 and A-3 plus two 100 lbs as optional on some models. This site confirms me the six 50lbs bombs on A-7: http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/detail.asp?aircraft_id=155
Are my infos completely or partially wrong?

Well, I think it's because I've strictly based my work upon 4.10.1 classfile... Obvious, I know. Unfortunately now I'm not using the 4.11.1+beta modact. However I will try to find the problem! Stay tuned!

P.s. AutoDiffFM is not really needed, because the A-7 use stock P-36A-4 FM. My mistake writing the post and readme. Sorry to all...  :-[

Dutch publications such as Hugo Hooftman's "Van Glenn Martins en Mustangs" mention the 2x50kg bomb load, but no other options- same for the Dutch Brewsters by the way. I have never seen a photo of ML Hawks with bombs, but presumably they were attached in a similar position to the Brewsters, i.e. outboard of the undercarriage.

Thanks Spitwulf for this Hawk.  I'll be using it as an RAF A-4 for bomb carrying.  RAF used 10 and 20 LB (and maybe 30Lb, can't remember right now) + 303s.

Off topic...perhaps you could make the RAF mod version with 20 Lb bombs plus six 303s?
But I do much appreciate this A-7 and will be happy to use it on the Palembang map.

Umh, this is strange... Probably you have reached the java memory limit, but I'm not sure. Try to disable some aircraft mods and tell me if works.

Bye!
