Russian Air Ground Rockets reworked - Updated 7-9-12 Ready to DL
« on: September 06, 2012, 12:25:09 PM »

Making the Talvisota mods, I noticed that the I-15 and I-16 had strange RS-82 rockets - looking a little further in the Il-2 family, I understood that someone apparently thought that the RS family of rockets had dull shape and therefore chose to pattern them as a sized down BeRAB/ BeTAB family of anti-concrete bombs (the Russian equivalent of the Razon) - not to speak of fancy colours, and strange weights parameters, and the fact that ROFS and ROS had in reality a fragmentation head charge.
Well the RS were dull and plain looking (either plain metal with a blackish tail, either wholy blackish) only the early RS-82 had a green (not red) nose, or sometimes a bronze coloured nose.
I found a very interesting discussion on Aviaskins Forum with scans of precise drawings and details of each model produced of the RS rockets family, and also couple of good articles on the RS and M-13/M8 rockets.
So i recreated correct 3d models and corrected/wrote the respective java files  for the RS-82, BRS-82, ROS-132, ROFS-132, RS-132, BRS-132, M-8 and M-13 rockets.
(I did not change dispersion parameters).
Just drop this folder in your mods subdirectory and they will appear instead of the present rockets.

Update 7-9-12
This update includes the new bitmap made by Crazyflak to improve the "natural metallic" shade of the bitmaps of the RS-132 and BRS-132.

(If, after all, you prefer to keep the original shapes and parameters, just delete it)

This is perfect, Crazyflak! the lighter shade ofn the RS-132 is exactly the shade of the metal these rockets were made of - just the tail must remain black (it was painted in a blackish - very dark brown shade)

Hi all!
Dreamk, we like your mods. There are photos of the original RS-82 and RS-132.

Kirill Thanks! These are very nice pics. I must confess I missed your post on Aviaskins, saw only the last thread opened by ZloyPetrushkO on the RS rockets, with the fantastic scans and details of each model.
The blue band on the RS 82 is somehow a mystery - I have been unable to find confirmation from other sources about its presence on ww2 rockets used in operations.
Do you happen to know what's the meaning of the letters TS that appear (in Red?) on the body of some RS-132?
Pictures of RS82 are scarce

generally what is shown under the denomination RS-82 are late variants or M-8 rockets

RS132 with this mysterious TS inscription

drawings published in a nice article on the RS-rockets family

drawings from Modelist Konstruktor

For those who like Crazyflak cannot access Avisaskins attachments, here are the pics Kirill uploaded

Ohh! cool (re-)fixes, will DL 8)
..maybe the 'TC' could be an indicator of... a storage depot, weapon producer/manufacturer, them being training rounds; utilising remaining oldest produced stocks first, for Tc/Czechslovakia... etc.

About "TC" (TS) designation I have one proposition - it can be part of so called "ballistic index" (TS-11, -13, -46 etc.). It was needed to designate missiles of different series, wich were differing by shape of nose part, type of fuel, installation angle of stabilizers etc. If it's true, so there should be "number" on invisible side of the missile. But I don't think that all missiles were marked by its ballistic index.

Can you upload somewhere else, please? Aviaskin site admins never granted me permission to see attachments (after many requests)
You did not activate your account. Now the problem is solved.  :)

TC is the ballistic index of the TC-13 (14). After 1944 (46, 47).
I guess the blue band indicates fragmentation head.

Kirill, this is very interesting - it seems that coloration of these rockets evolved with the years - the overall metallic with a light green "cap" is very similar to what we can see on Oranovsky bombs/ AF-32 / AF-82 from 1941. The overall khaki probably replaced it - which is logical as this rocket was in fact a ground to ground rocket adapted for use as a air-ground projectile.
Interestingly we have a similar phnomenon with similar 3 diffrent camos (metal, black and olive-green with black inscriptions and band) for the PTAB

BTW the RS rockets, though already available in quantities, were apparently not used in the first stage of the 1941 onslaught on Russia, as they were considered as a "secret weapon" and began to be used only after the font begin to stabilize somehow at the end of 1941. These were so secret in the first months of the war that they were kept under the direction of the NKVD.

The question is really interesting. Photo 1941. Bottom RS painted. Top RS unpainted. But most of the RS have a dark color in the photos WoW. I'm guessing that most of the RS were painted in khaki (less in black).

Yes, this is probably related to production matters. As soon as the factories were re-established in the Urals, production was standardized and went really "massive" - the olive-green scheme becoming then the "standard" one.
