Boring voice pack
« on: November 12, 2012, 03:19:24 PM »

Hi,

I'm not a modder, so it's hard for me to say whether it is possible or not .. I just wonder if it is possible to add more actors and more dialogs to the voicepacks. When you play off line it gets really boring to listen the same phrases said the same way all the time.

Easier to just record new samples for the current actors.
Hard part is getting people to record good samples.

Maybe if the recording was actually over a radio, even a simple CB type or whatever, since it would have a bit of static and mike clicks etc.    Just a thought. I hate those gosh awful voices to, as they sound like the guests at a gay wedding.  ::)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Nice...but the only voices I ever hear are German, and haven't noticed that!

It would be easy to add the static and clicks, just need the convincing voice samples.

In yrs past (I mean like back when the F-4E was our most advanced fighter) I used to mess a bit with CB radios......I was one of the ones who actually had an FCC lic to use them and before every chicken slinger and his sister/mama (yeah I said that) got on there to run their mouths. This was far before cell phones etc, and my pals and I had "portables" that we slung over our shoulders with battery packs, about the size of a .50 cal ammo can. One guy even developed a "phone patch" where we could call him on the radio and he could patch us into his telephone; very advanced for high school kids, hell, for anyone back then. Used to scare crap outta the yocals.

We used proper radio procedure and I was familiar with aviation usage as well from flying with my Dad. If I still had that stuff, I could make some pretty convincing exchanges with somebody on another radio (if I had a 30 hr day). Certainly better than the recordings that were apparently made at a cross dressing convention in Russia.  :-*  ???

I even learned how to jam the jabber mouths who blocked the air all the time with their overpowered nonsense - I'd take the squelch off my scanner and key the mike over it. Totally jammed thier lousy keysters, sorta like EB-66s over Nam; they were my inspiration after seeing an interview on the news one night where an officer said he did similar sometimes.

So yeah, the radio stuff could be done with moderate equipment and proper technique. I'd add some profanity in assorted languages to, as I've heard alot of recordings of pilots in combat in Nam and since; they aren't very politically correct. May fav transmission was in a dogfight w/Migs over N.vietnam;"What the F, over?" Proper radio procedure.

" a cross dressing convention in Russia"  - that's a good one.
Do you remember Monthy Python sketch with WW1 British pilots wearing dresses?

Back to topic  - I know one can record it himself, I know also that is hard to record good ones. I like idea on CB or other radio stuff to add some noise. But my point was whatever good recordings you do with 9 actors and quite a few phrases it will annoy you pretty soon. It must be quite great collection of actors so in big mission each pilot has own "voice"

Here is a link to the dialog scripts for each of the nine actors (US) http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=4289.  This is an Excel format with one worksheet for each actor.  With this you can get an idea of what is involved and then you can create your own voice packs.  There are 981 separate dialog scripts for nine actors.

track down the RAF voice pack by Compans, you will find it very different to the default stuff  ;)

There are other re-done packs too, just have to trawl the net for them

Using a simple software sound editor you can add clicks, static etc over good quality voice recordings and make them sound just like radio chatter. So you don't need all the radio equipment but it would be more fun!

If you look in IL2 root folder you will find a zip which contains docs of the scripts for the voice actors

Hope this helps,

Thank all for replying.
There is a bunch of great voice packs, I can record my own as well. I meant something rather more complex - you can say " one o'clock high" in a dozen ways. and whatever good sample do make it will be the same. So I did an experiment during the game I renamed a voice pack to current one ( the idea was to do some set of voicepacks and swap them during the game to produce impression of versatility) that did not works. It seems that sample used once is kept in RAM, and will not change even if you restart the mission. So effect was  mixes English - Japanese sentences.
I got also other issue  - is it possible to bound a voice pack to a specific squad? Imagine Battle of Britain, among British you have Canadians, Poles, Czechs. So you can for instance add voice pack for Polish squad speaking of course English but with strong Polish accent (they  had come to UK few months earlier) or even putting some Polish words when excited.
