Hi I can confirm that sound files are locked by the game once they have been played in a session. I was trying to randomise the inflight folder whilst flying and got the same file locked problem. No way round it I don't think. The file is only released when you end the game.

I swap out my music files and voice packs using a batch file which copies different music into the inflight folder, different voice packs then launches IL2fb. But once you are flying, you are stuck with what you loaded.

I think each nationality uses the same voice pack so I don't think you could link a specific pack to a squad within a nationality

workround for squad-specific?:

Add each squad as a different allied nationality in FMB then add your voice files to that nationality's voice folder?

Yes, that seems OK, but it will change marking on the planes as well, won't it? Anyway it is quite good idea.

Is possible to do it for DCG? changing some entries in campaing files?

You would have to use some of the many skins with national markings included and turn off 'markings/insignia'

Don't know about DCG sorry

Why does the Movie "Battle of Britain" run over and over in my mind while I read this? There are so many great "phrases" in that, in unique and colorful "British" (you guys don't speak anything like English ::)) as well as German, which I have no idea what is being said, but it sure sounds cool. - Picture the Luftwaffe gruppenleader wearily rolling his eyes around over his O2 mask (looking for Spits) while ordering his 109 guys to quit b*tching about having to stick with the bombers.

AND....(RAF theme to BoB plays) the annoyed RAF Hurricane instructor with the funky scarf ordering his Polish students to take a particular course.......All of them saying "Repit pleez" as they roll off to attack the huge gaggle of He-111s sneaking in the back door so to speak (uh oh, I forgot about the cross dressing thing  :-*), don't tell anybody I said that).

I think the term "Oh God's truth" would sound pretty good.

Or Robert Shaw and his even more annoyed transmissions:
RAF control: "Well they've got to be there."
Squadron leader Shaw, "Well come up here and see for yourself, Nothing I tell you, NOTHING !"
Or when his son's Spit is on fire; "Get out AAANDY!!" Triggered by your plane burning etc.  ???

:-[ You can tell I've seen BoB too many times since forcing my late poor Grandmother to sit thru 2 showings in the DeSoto Theatre back in 69 when it came out. (you could do that back then).

And don't even get me started on Robert Mitchum and Robert Wagner's exchanges in "The Hunters". Or Steve McQueen in "the War Lover".  :P Those bandit calls would freak us all out in bomber misns.  :o

I guess I better shut up before I inspire somebody to do something that would offend the sensibilities of some blood sucking GDMFSOB lawyer someplace  >:(. I'm gonna go back into the FMB now.  :-X

(But I can't help but wonder how practical or workable it would be to take selected recordings out of movies and associate them with the appropriate triggers or if it's even possible. I'm still having to relearn the FMB with all the mod stuff).

Only one problem with that concept.

You're 3,000m up over the Channel. You spot a flight of 109s up ahead, and your wingman in a Hurricane gives you the thumbs up. You dive down, gaining speed, press your finger to the trigger; suddenly, your headphones crackle:
"Silly bitch."
"He's calling you names again Arnold!"

Yeah, you got a great point as to the mutilation of such a concept. I do fantasize about an application that would let you pick different voice packs with assorted triggers for changing voices/radio transmisns according to the scenario you are in.

ie. internal and external combat exchanges if you fly a bomber misn, stuff from 'The Hunters' or 'the bridges at Toko Ri' if you fly jetwar/korea type stuff, Navy scenarios etc.
A moderate amount of such could add to the atmosphere - woo.

Sounds like that stuff is locked into place when you start up though, so it would probably require the computer from a Federation Galaxy class starship (operated by commander Data) to do it.

Sure would beat the blazes out of the 'don't ask, don't tell' stuff that Americans have to put up with in their voice packs.  :-X

Hi,

Picking different sounds can be done to a point - I have created several 'inflight' sound folders and can access them via the console during a mission (using a similar method as described in the 'IL2 Flight Randomiser' mod to change radio nationalities, but I use shortcut using script in the RCU file and bind to a joystick key). So I actually do have some soundbytes from BoB film at the click of the button, or some rousing RAF march music when i get a kill or some 40's radio for the flight home or some BBC war reporting or Churchill speeches at the flick of a switch whilst flying.

Takes some setting up and of course it's not automatic to the context in your flight, you have to decide when you want to hear what, but I find it adds to the immersion  :)

:o Marcost, that is just F-ing cool. I wish I was savi enough computer wise to do that, but I bet that really does add to the effect. I'm just fantasizing about an application/device/option that would let you pick a package of that stuff for whatever misn you are flying, OR.......(dramatic drumroll)....apply such a collection in the FMB for campaign/misn projects.

I couldn't even get a midi of the film '1941' to play for a readme I tried to make a couple of yrs ago for my 1948 project,  :-X so I don't think I'll be too successful at improvising like you did; hence the need for an application/option to do it for me.

I do envy your improvisation.  :P

Hi Sleepingdragon,  :) thanks I'm happy with it, but it's really just a way of using other clever people's ideas. I didn't add much except make it do what I wanted.

Regarding adding your own sounds via FMB/ missions, I think this is possible now... using the radio beacon function I think it's called. You can add beacons to a mission anywhere on a map and then tune into them inflight to hear their broadcast. The broadcast will be whatever you put as sounds in the radio station sound folders. I haven't tried it, and it's not a single step process, but maybe worth checking out  ;)

Some of Monty27's recent and excellent campaigns have radio stations added and the radio music available if you want to see if it works for you e.g:

Yes, the Aussie voicepack (stock) is well done.  One advantage too is that when they call "Fighters! Dead ahead!" you know which squadron it is simply because, in our current online campaign for example, they are the only Aussie squadron out there!  LOL.

One of my pet peeves is hearing "Fighters! Nine o'clock!" on the radio and not having a clue who is calling it.  Is it the squadron flying CAP over the carrier?  Is it the SBDs on their way to bomb an island?  Is it the F4Us covering the SBDs?  Is it my AI in my own squadron (which usually break toward the enemy so that's one way to tell)?  If some form of identification was possible on the radio then at least you would know if;
a.  roughly what direction it is (based on the pre-flight briefings),
b.  if it is on your way, in range or not, and
c.  whether it's worth changing course to intercept/help.

The other pet peeve is friendly AI who don't or won't RTB and land (on our carrier) but end up diving into the water.  Then of course there is the late radio call after the fact "I'm taking hits.  I'm going to ditch!" when the plane has already hit the ground/water.

Will 4.12 do anything about that?  Just curious.
