Looks great Taras, are you going to be able to put insignia on the default skins?................. that way I don't have to beg you for a Egyptian skin for your Suez remake...

I noticed you said a cockpit might follow, is it to just be AI?............ was wondering if you were going to make a flyable and AI version like all the other helos in game.

It's looking very good so far, take yer time and get right.

Cheers

Hoss

These kind of mods are the backside of choosing a flight yoke and not a joystick :). Indeed Good work even if I cant use it

Thats how it will be. If you go to the link in my previous post, you will see that there already a lot of skins available, including Egyptian :)

Also now it uses HRS3 cockpit, and also I already have two versions in game (flyable and non flyable).

Also all skins have insignia on them. And there is a very nice HD template available, so skinners will be pleased too  ;D

BUMP!

After some time I`ve got very disappointed with current model of Mi-8 that I`ve exported so I decided to look for a new one.

Luckily I`ve got a permission from the author of this mod to convert his model into IL-2.
http://marcfighters.combatace.com/Aircrafts.htm

Hurray to Marcfigters for his amazing work on 3d and HD skins and available template!

Conversion of that model was not the easiest process, because it lost smoothing and all parts were misaligned after import into 3ds max (I think modders understand what I mean). But after some time here it is:

Also Flight model got much better. Cockpit might follow also.

So all in all it is coming into your hands in a fortnight or so.  ;)
Conversion of LOD models from Thirdwire community is best done using UMC2v1.3.exe (but keep always in mind that your lods must be put in a fisrt order folder, not a subfolder, as this program does not deal well with paths) - but smoothing is not preserved although the resulting 3ds file is quite fine. Another way that preserves the smoothing is to use DXripper, but then you must have one of the original thirdwire simulators installed to do so.
However, from what I have seen while testing models conversion processes, smoothing of Thirdwire community models is often in fact rather poor, due generally to lack of systematically welding adjacent vertices, the resulting very nice display resulting from paintshop "magic" - skins can really change completely the appearance of a model.

Now you showed yourself and if you won`t finish it, they all will blame you :D

I think sometime ago I was trying to find it, because I saw your discussion on this matter somewhere, but without any luck. Would be nice if you could send me a link :)

Also you are quite right about skins, they can do a magic. This model has a very nice, bu I didn`t understood this statement:

"due generally to lack of systematically welding adjacent vertices"

Sorry, I am very new to 3d.

 :) Here's my copy of it :
https://www.mediafire.com/?mcf94fczdc74ma0
I don't remember from where I downloaded it originally - I used it to test other 3d formats before discovering it could be used for Thirdwire LOD format.
Take your time to play with it, it's a program full of tricks  :P, but it works  8) - at least to import LOD and save 3ds  :) (better not try to save as an Obj file, even if it seems to offer this possibility... ???.)
