Barnesy12's Darkglasses mod made to fake light filter
« on: December 10, 2012, 05:58:33 PM »

First, I must say, barnesy, thank you for your Darkglasses effect. I love how your brain works in a very innovative way:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25209.516.html

I don't want to stole your idea, mod or the credits with this topic, its just that people have some place to write if this catches on.

So, again, thank you for this Darkglasses effect. It’s very cool as it is, but I tried to make something else from it. And I really hope that you wouldn't mind.

Actually I think that you are the one who can develop this further, if you make this for every plane (PLEEEEEASEEEE!  ;D )

I modified it a bit and made something like graphic filter. It is really improvising, but the end result is not bad.

As far as I understand, Barnesy made a little box in front of the pilot/camera of P51. This acts as a screen, and then he tinted it. I thought if it is like screen then it can also be like filter. So I changed values in mat file and changed texture (its white now, was black I think).

Now from the cockpit view you see "the world" through that fake filter. Colors are little bit livelier but the light is more intense. It is visible mostly on the clouds and on the sky. Depends of the time of the day (didn't try it at night yet), angle of the light/Sun coming in to the cockpit, type of clouds, view angle to the ground. Sometimes the light is too saturated so the clouds are too white (sometimes they actually resemble on ROF clouds), all depends, it is very dynamic.

It is really far from perfect, but looks to me like good effect. It is editable, though very limited. You can set more light, change colors (not bad, we can have the tehnicolor or sepia effect). Even some "scratches" could be added to the texture to made it looks like the "old film".

I assume that it can be added to all cameras in the game, so that would be visible everywhere, not just from the in-cockpit view, but I’m no expert for that 3D stuff.

And some screenshots:

This is how the tinting works. Done very fast

The first few shots with the white filter are excellent! Reminiscent of CoD in a lot of ways.

Yeap, there is definitely potential in this, since changes the whole "atmosphere" & lighting of the game !...
Colours are definitely more vivid & thus visibility also... It could be used in conjuction with Benitomuso's
3D stereo mod for red/cyan glasses also (I suppose) to enhance visibility or even to correct a bit the
yellowish "filter" when wearing the glasses.
But making it for all planes, it's too much work I guess...

How has no one else seen this?!
 ???
Avala this is really extraordinary. Ive run a mission through with a quick hack for the 109E and it looks really good, with a few exceptions:
Sunflare. I'm not sure if there is a mod out already that diminishes the already overpowering glare of the sun but with this added it is quite overbearing. At times making 1/4 of the sky sheer white.
I also have the same issue with the horizon line-sometimes. I cant tell what or why it is caused but at times the glare of the sun is mimicked on the horizon.

Other than that fraking superb. With a little refinement this will go a long way toward making the game even better.

CWMV

I know for the overimpowering might of the sun glare  :) Its too much sometimes. Depends on the time of the day, map and so on . . .

This is what you can do, what could work: find sunglass.mat, and change the following values:

[ClassInfo]
  ClassName TMaterial
[General]
  tfDoubleSide 0
  tfShouldSort 1
  tfDropShadow 0
  tfGameTimer 1
[LightParams]
  Ambient 0.40  This is the light, try to set it to lower number, but as far as I saw it turns all off somewhere between 15 and 20.
  Diffuse 0.20
  Specular 0.0
  SpecularPow 0
  Shine 0.5          Set this to 4 or 3, I think it also turns it off if lower
[Layer0]
  TextureName darkglass.tga
  PaletteName
  Frame 0.0
  VisibleDistanceNear 0.0
  VisibleDistanceFar 10000.0
  TextureCoordScale 0.0 0.0 1.0 1.0
  ColorScale 1.0 1.0 1.0 0.9
  AlphaTestVal 0.9
  tfNoDegradation 0
  tfWrapX 1
  tfWrapY 1
  tfMinLinear 1
  tfMagLinear 1
  tfMipMap 1
  tfBlend 0
  tfBlendAdd 1
  tfTestA 0
  tfTestZ 0
  tfUpDateClear 1
  tfModulate 1
  tfNoTexture 0
  tfAnimatePalette 0
  tfAnimateSkippedFrames 0
  tfCompressMajorAlpha 0
  tfNoCompress16Bit 1
  tfNoWriteZ 1

How did you made it for 109s??

Cool Ill give it a shot. Just ran another sortie over England at a later time and the glare was not an issue. As you said, seems to be related to time.

I just copied and pasted what was in you P-51 folder into a new folder named Bf 109E-1. Works well enough but there is something in the Z_Zmask that needs to be changed for the 109 reticle to be limited to the reflector. Playing with it now...

Hi Avala.
Welcome back to SAS, I didnt see you here for  along time and youre our master of textuxes and light effects.
Just to keep true to the facts, this mod is my idea after installig the wonderful pilots by Barnesy and wondering how would be their vision with the new dark tinted glasses, as you can see in my original post (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,30583.0.html).
Im glad our comunity enjoyed the idea, and is striving to give us new mods to improved our loved game.
Thanks for your improvement on this effect!
All the best.

Hi

I was not here for while but when i saw this post, i just have to ........
I am glad you working on this ugly engine colors, so that may help you ..

there is sun.class in the game ...

    public Sun()
    {
        ToLight = new Vector3f();
        SunV = new Vector3f();
        ToSun = new Vector3f();
        ToMoon = new Vector3f();
        moonPhase = 0.5F;
        tod = 0.0F;
        darkness = 1.0F;
        sunMultiplier = 1.0F
;
        SunV.set(0.0F, 0.0F, -1F);
        ToSun.set(SunV);
        ToSun.negate();
        ToMoon.set(ToSun);
        ToMoon.negate();
        ToLight.set(ToSun);
        Ambient = 0.5F;
        Diffuze = 0.5F;
        Specular = 1.0F;
        Red = 1.0F;
        Green = 1.0F;
        Blue = 1.0F;

    }

changing those values you may reduce sun efect

I hope that will help you

good luck

This is great Avala  well done i had not even got round to editing the mat files  :) you can try different tints by editing the tga in gimp i have red yellow and blue the look changes markedly but you don't get the wash out effect CWMV is talking about its quite immerse v  the little box is actually the whole length of the cockpit  and pyramid shaped if you change the tint to a very light yellow you can see where the mesh is welded together probably didn't need to apply smoothing it should work in any cockpit as this was my thinking using the zz mesh every plane cockpit has this so no need for class files etc just the mesh and a tga  nothing to screw up will be interesting to see where this goes i like the change from going from outside view to inside view feels like you have got your sunglasses on :P
cheers Barnesy :)
