Map of Indo-Pakistani Border Region
« on: December 30, 2012, 06:40:19 AM »

Here's a link for a new, modest map showing part of the immensely long Indo-Pakistani border. The idea is by RealDarko, to have a map for post WWII conflicts. More info and screenshots can be found here:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,31033.0.html

The map is mainly level terrain bordered to the north and south by ridges and hills. It is an arid area, though it is a seasonal marsh during periods of the year.

Hi Ag,

It's always nice to reply to a first post.  ;D

Looking forward to flying over the new year.  ;D

Will have to look into the other two years you mention on the ed map.

I knew about the frst year mentioned.

Thanks again for another great  map  ;D :D

Awesome. Too bad Hunter is no more in development, I'd love to play Hunter vs Sabre engagements.

I'd love to fly a Gnat in IL-2, to see if the Sabre stood a chance or this dominance of the British jet was hyped up.. :)

Thank you agracier!  :)

Some shots. I know.. took jets.. ???..but I spent a longer time trying to give them at least a halfway historic context. (I needed the forgotten countries thing via JSGME).

While the shots are more at jet altitudes, the map looks nice and immersive on the ground as well.

India used Mig-21s, Pakistan Canadair Sabres. (Maybe not at the same time, but close).

Excellent map for Tempest Mk.II vs Tempest Mk.II missions. Thanks, agracier.

Very nice screenshots ... especially the low flying shot with all the random pop-up trees.

The map still need some tweaking possibly. I usually advise to use hazy weather settings and do so most often myself. That sort of blunts the borders of textures and helps them blend together somewhat more smoothly ... I noticed it in the screenshots which show the whiter cliff ridge.

Maybe some adjusting of textures might be in order.

I think I deleted the low flying shot a few hours ago. Will see that I can reupload it.
IMO the map is good as it is. It is very hard to make a convincing IL-2 map with little topographical changes such as hills and mountains or coastlines.
The usage of hazy weather also improves the look of 80-90% of all maps.
IIRC, I used fair there.
This is an interisting region, for WWII, post WWII and maybe even pre- WWII scenarios.

Cheers

PS: If I am not mistaken, the Spitfire skin came with one of the DBW default skin packs. :D
I also like it. Great job by the skinner gentleman. :)

on the above screenshot - you're flying over terrain to which I added rgb196 on map_c ... makes more random trees appear.

Take a look at map_C - you'll see the odd patterns of course, but also odd patterns in rgb196.
