I've been trying some simple 3D modelling on one of my Frankenplanes to improve the appearance, especially the fairing.
I've downloaded Blender and .msh converter 1.18, and i've had success getting the 3D model from mesh to .3ds and into blender. Having edited the model however, I can't get .msh converter to properly convert the .3ds back into .msh. This means the model is failing to load in the game. The problem appears to be the hooks, LOD,s etc are not included or not included properly (in the LOD case; all values are listed as 0) in the new modified .msh file.
As i've only modified the aesthetic parts, i've tried copying and pasting the old LOD and Hook values from the orginal CF_D0 file, but no luck with that either.
Any ideas?

It MshConverter118 converts files MSH well to format 3DS, which edit in
Blender. But option Save this Msh(text) in programme MshConverter118 pays back incorrect results, or I do not know something.
As example have a look on this picture:

it represents the file the msh of airplane To -335A-0 about name Z_Throttle1, I did not edit
content of this file. I did not shove tops itd, only what
I made this I converted it to 3DS first.
Then I file 3DS for help MshConverter118 option Save this Msh(text) recorded as
text : the result then trick the side of picture.
The same 3DS open file after right side of picture is for help Gmax   and  recorded
as text near help of connector the Buggy the Buggy IL2 the Exporter.
But content is already different, in spite that file did not be edit .
In left lack [LOD] . It after inscription 500 file acts faultly even , bad piece
it puts on texture. However text from right side acts well.
If you want to use Blendera this edited files Blendera recorded as 3DS
do not convert already to text  near help MshConverter118 , only
install me Gmax additionally and connector BuggyBuggy  plus  programme YAGG and
for their help record to msh(text), you will avoid in this way of distortions of programme
MshConverter118 near recording to msh(text).
I do not know or  Blender is suitable to modingu I?2?
It maybe however you will have to use from Gmxa, but it can tasted was was.

If it reasons bad I have this hope that misters moders will straighten my fast.

3ds files generated by msh converter are not standard 3ds versions (and as such, problems are encounteered when trying to import them in programs such as 3dmax for instance - till someone on these forums developped successfully a suitable importer plug ins for such 3ds files see https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,10173.msg151796.html#msg151796 and teh discussion in the thread). The trick is to open them using a program like Deep exploration that read them although they are somehow defective, and save them again as 3ds files (this creates a regular standard 3ds file
- There is a freeware previous version of Deepexploration running around the various Il2 forums).

My own humble advice is to never use 3ds as a vector for transferring Il2 models but use Obj format (WaveFront). It may reorientate your model by a 90 global turn on the right or on the left but will keep the pieces at their right relatiev place. This is true for 3dmax to Gmax transfer, and also when exporting through DrJones Il2 whole model to 3dmax or Blender.

I've downloaded Gmax, which tbh seems a lot more user friendly than blender. I've been looking around for this buggy buggy exporter, and the only copy available seems to be on all aircraft simulations, which my account hasn't been activated on. Does anyone know of an alternative source?
Also, I can't open that link - it says it's missing or I don't have permission to access it.
Cheers for the advice so far, i'm going to switch to Gmax and buggy buggy on the strength of it I think.

This download link works (From https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,941.msg10414.html#msg10414):
Package with the Buggy Buggy Importer (restricted release) and the Buggy Buggy Exporter (public release).

Thank you very much, that works perfectly:

(crew nacelle)
This massively expands what I can do as a modder - I have a reasonable amount of 3d modelling experience, so I can start making aircraft from scratch now. It also means this BV 194 will be far less of a franken than I originally thought.
