My (also non-pro) X-52, which I bought years ago, is the best one I ever had. I did get the software to run and work and (for me at least) is as simple as it gets. Hit a button - yes there are maaaany - then type in your key combination on the keyboard, name it, save file, done. Well, acutally repeat a gozillion times 'til you have all keys mapped, but you get the idea.
What I like very much about this stick is how it feels, especially the throttle, you  just want your hand there, it kinda feels - I barely dare say it - sexy. Your right hand is on your stick, naturally (no innuendo intended  ??? ) and it goes really smooth, you can fly using only thumb and middle finger, and still achieve great precision. I have been going through the electronics stores for years and "checked the feels" on countless other sticks (this just sounds wrong), and none could match or even surpass mine. Plus none looked as good.

Gosh I sound like a damn commercial... :P

Srsly, it's definitly not "low quality", mati, I paid about 100€ back in the day, and knowing what I know now, I would've also paid double that price, it's worth every single cent.

Lower price saitek sticks, well I am not up-to-date (why would I, got a '52) but I still have my "first generation" Cyborg Evo (35€ back then - must be like 4 years ago). Very durable piece of equipment (oh what I have done to it  :P ) but a lot stiffer on the centering spring. You really need to pull on this one.

x-52 was the best compromise of price/performance for me... Had an x45 before that - modded that to be the length of a real stick for better translated control inputs.

What I'd like to know from pilots flying with the X52 is when you're throttling up and down, do you find your throttle more fine tuned? Or in other words more slow but accurate when moving your throttle? Kinda like a smooth throttling up not like a instant, fast and snapping forward type of deal just a smooth throttling up.

i had the non pro x-52 for many years. It does not break down . All tho it is plastic it get kind of an old realistic patina . the color is going away in the edges making it look real.
The only thing I wished for was a better trimweel´s . The trottle felt very nice and comes with a lot of switches

I have the Trustmaster Hotas Cougar and rudder for nearly five years and I cannot use any others joystick. Quality is excellent, mostly metal construction. It allows an accurate and smooth fly. However the price is very high!

Razgriz, there is this wheel on the side where you can adjust the "force" the throttle puts up against you. Turn it all the way to "-" and it snap-throttles, turn it all the way to "+" and it's like throtteling in syrup. I have mine cranked up high because that keeps me from compressor-stalling the Me-262 :P

Very Cool!  Quite a feature, adds resistance to the throttle quadrant. I am more in favor of having it feel like it's in syrup, due to that compressor stall situation or in another example, the He-162 Models as well as the Me-262 models have a very sensitive engine which will catch fire if not careful throttling up. Ideal use with such a feature.

Yeah. On the other hand, for example if flying in helicopters (Huey yay!) , you'll want the "collective" aka throttle to be able to move rather fast - especially when dodging bullets coming at you or in similar situations.

Ah yes thus the use of that knob on the side. So you could switch it up accordingly.

I'd recomend the Logitech Extreme 3d PRO:

12 buttons
4 axes

Avoid the newer Saitek Cyborg/FLY series sticks. The buttons on the stick are fragile and it's impossible to repair them when they break. Sad but true, the more money you spend, the better the stick will be.
