IL2-DBW : HAF mod & Aegean Sea map
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:42:34 AM »

I'm a member of "Black Tails Jet Squadron" and I've been working on this project of mine, since June 2012. HAF mod I call a #DBW package with Greek jets, that expands historically from 1970 up to 2000...(second & third generation Jets) &  use it with few friends of Lock On Greece Community (most of them play DCS) to simulate operations of Hellenic Airforce. Current map being used, is Agracier's Dodecanese Islands map & Aircrafts include : "T-41" (L-5 Sentinel), T-33, "T-2 BackEye" (L-39 C), A-7, F-4E, Shikorsky heli & Huey & few others... For videos & info of the project for anyone that would have an interest, see my site here : http://341sqn.nemesis.freehostia.com/index.html (Although it will be "All Greek for you"...)

I've also developed a very big Aegean Sea map that covers hole Aegean Sea, from Northern Greek borders until Crete and includes half of Greece teritory and about 100 Km inland of Turky sores. The map is finished up to the stage that textures have to dress it...

Purpose of this post is to demonstrate a HAF skin of L-5 flying over "Icarus School" (School for new HAF pilots), Tatoi Airport, Dekeleia, Attiki, Greece, that I made yesterday. Aegean Sea map is used & a 3.200 m texture of the Airport area at its real coordinates & scale...

See the VIDEO, here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErZhYxuLlu0

Though I develop Aegean map for Jet Era & my IL2 project (& it will take me some time...), in case of any mapmaker interested, Aegean map is available with no limitations to use as he/she wants. Just post here or send me a PM.

PS : I most certainly live "my myth" as a virtual Hellenic AirForce pilot with this old but still GREAT Simulator!...

Hi chaps!
That video looks very impressive. It almost reminded me of Falcon BMS.
I'd love to see that theatre populated! I'm a rookie modder so to say and my next project is another map, but I am sure you would find interested help here. The airbase(s) environment looks amazing!
And sooner or later we might have an F-5 for that theatre...

 ;)Off topic:
I think you would possibly love the Falcon BMS Aegean theatre and WIP East Mediterranean front theatres. Not so much the current textures for the Aegean theatre, but the overall dedication of these chaps (they are partially-2 of them- good buddies of mine and do a kickass job, both the Hellenic and Turkish members of that team..very nice men..). Complete with real navigation charts, realistic skins and WIP new jets etc..but surely leaned mostly towards the F-16 and Mirage 2000s.

OK, off topic, my bad.. ;)

You must to have a look to see at BMS you will like i do think! Falcon is easy to play and F-16 is for real like you can imagine, is my favourite, Tom2 he did show to me how to maked install Falcon and is not problem.

At last night gone i did maked visited at you website and it did maked me to want to become member but for me IL-2 is no more! if i did know this before about you website then would i have become member and come fly with you, you map he is beautiful for sure and puts in to head many good memories.  ;)

Here is a book that might inspire some missions:

Fighters over the Aegean: Hurricanes over Crete, Spitfires over Kos, Beaufighters over the Aegean 1943 - 44
by Brian Cull.

Enjoy!

Eleni, that is sad to know that you do not fly IL-2 anymore..this forum and your friends here including myself will surely miss your inspiring presence if you also will not visit SAS anymore.. :-\.   :(
Also your wonderful new map project.. ;)
Weird enough, I went the other way: I know that Falcon BMS is the most realistic sim, I just do not like it as much as IL-2, and especially the WIP Mig-21, with a flight model better than any jet I saw so far in IL-2, made me think twice.
My main issue with BMS is the controller I use will not gove me the correct fast F-16 response, IMHO a coding bug in BMS to only favour HOTAS setups.
IL-2 also simply looks better.. :D But tbh, I also still post at BMS and fly it. IL-2 for beauty and realistic looking cockpits and some realistic FMs and BMS for pure realism (and the Aegean + Israel scenarios :)  :D ).

Cheers

I agree with what you say Tom. but BMS ?... Naaaah....! I'm a "pre-fly by wire" guy... Since fly by wire, piloting of aircaft passed
in second priority & first priority became the use of aviation electronics & weapons systems
(that I don't care too much...). So simulators like BMS & DCS, seem more like tactical games
to me than real flight simulators (ok, with the exception of A-10 add on).

Small progress update (but big video... ;)) :

Walker: I also do not enjoy BMS THAT much for similar reasons..but it is ca. 100x closer to a real simulator than our beloved IL-2. :D
But I get your point. ;) I prefer the feel of the IL-2 planes and as long as a sim has a couple of planes with good flight models, realistically modelled cockpits, some environmental atmosphere realism and beautiful theatres, that's what counts for me more than knowing that last knowb for releasing JDAMs.

On the other hand: If Helen-of-Sparta says it rocks (BMS), that is pretty much a quality statement IMO.
You won't see too many ex real fighter gals and guys around here.

But since this forum is about IL-2 and we agree to be IL-2 addicts.. ;)
Cannot see the video due to usual YouTube corporate blocking terror in my land. :P
Cheerio!

Thank you sphantom! I am rather suspicous these days with proxys and unblockers sinc I don't trust the paranoid German new internet laws. If you watch it on YouTube unblocked, no one can blame you as user.
Anyway, I might emigrate to the Netherlands..or South England..less stupid and "beahces have waves". :)
