Time for a new map. This one covers the area around the Manchurian city of Harbin. It's mostly flat, rolling terrain with some low, steep cliffs along long stretches. The river valleys have cultivated fields textures, the other areas do not. The actors is not insignificantly large, though aside from Harbin itself and a few towns, there is little concentration of objects. There is however a large number of small hamlets scattered throughout the map.
Airfields, aside from Harbin are fictitious, they are also rudimentary in the main. The map is inspired by Mixx's incomparable Khalkin-Gol retex. Several of his textures were used and adapted to the color palette of this map. Uffllakke's desert trees are included as well, but downsized to 1024 so that they will give no problems for those not having the needed mod installed. If you wish to keep your own desert trees textures, then no not overwrite them.
There are BumpH files included in a separate folder with the regular texture files. They are not installed on the map in this manner, but should you wish to try them out, just copy them, or any combination, into the texture folder with the normal textures. These are in 8-bit, greyscale and should hopefully work, though I have found the effect to be subtle at times and hard to notice discernibly.
There are 2 versions of the map. One for 1937, for a Sino-Japanese conflict scenario. The other for 1945, with a Soviet offensive against Japan launched in August 1945. Both maps are identical, aside from the ed maps ... the changes are just for the atmosphere and to show off the many colorful flags pertaining to this war.
The city of Harbin was a manufacturing city. Populating tried to reflect that by using almost exclusively industrial objects. The villages and hamlets were hopefully given a somewhat Chinese look, but due to the dearth of oriental objects, that was hard to do adequately.
For the 1937 map, there are strictly speaking, just like with the SCW a short while ago, not that many suitable aircraft, especially on Japanese side. Maybe someone will one day start to address this. You can however, use several of DreamK's planes as substitute early Japanese planes - the Bulldog, Dewoitine 371, Northrop Gamma etc all work quite well with Japanese skins.
Another small oddity on the map. There are game generated railways, but no game generated roads. There were so few roads that I tried an experiment, using Kevin's KDP roadplates to make up the sparse roads on the map. Therefore maps and terrain will not always exactly accord regarding the location of roads, but I bet that was the case back then anyway ... you can also not have a vehicle follow a road unless you painstakingly place umpteen waypoints ... vehicles will however cross road objects without any problem.
The map is made mainly for low flying missions using hazy or worse weather types. Avoid noonday flying for best visual results. The water is a muddy brown for the rivers and lakes.
The temptation to center action around Harbin will be great. However, landscapes to the north are very nice.
