Thanks Mike for your reply!

I plan to buy that CPU and atm I have a Core2Duo @ 3gh (IL2 running on core 2) , GTS250 with 1g of memory , XP sp3 with 4g ram

I have also a GTX460 plus (overclocked by default at 115%) waiting for the upgrade....

Did you think that change only the GPU 'll give similar fps increase or is better upgrade the CPU among the GTX460 GPU?

Walter, I have a ATI HD 7770, and a ok CPU, Im going to get a 7800, or a 7900 Series Video card before I get a new CPU.

Thanks for the tool Mike

The point for me is that if you do have hyperthreading and four cores, you must set PAM beyond the published max of 15 to stand any chance of benefiting from a performance improvement (...if any exists)

I personally think there is a programming flaw in IL2, becouse in reality, even with my system, it should
be running IL2 maxed out without even breaking a sweat. I think it has to do with how IL2 game engine
uses it resources. IE: how it draws objects onto maps, too heavily relies on the CPU, etc.. Just my personal
opinion.

Hi BFT,

If you want to buy a "better" video card only for IL-2, save the money!

Oh, my good friend Gerhard, next month I will have the GPU I want, I was going to get an X-52, but I want eye candy before I get planted, lol.

Here's a scary thought - if new processors go further down the multi core route, the processing speed of each core could become less important and therefore lower than in current high end quad cores?

That means in future a new rig could run Il2 worse than an old one!? Anyone thinking of upgrading their CPU specifically for IL2 performance might need to consider this

... you are welcome Gerhard ...  ;)

The problem is when IL2 was still WIP, before 2000, graphics cards were so "weak" (64 or at best 128 MB) that the dev team decided a lot of calculations would be processed by the CPU, instead of the GPU, hence the fact that IL2 is still very CPU sensitive more than 10 years later ...

So it looks like overclocking the CPU (when possible) is for sure a cheap way to improve your fps ...  ;)

lol when hyper threading helped your cause/game. Not no more.
