Officially 4 with the 56th. On arrival was given his own flight nicknamed the 'polish' flight as Gladych would often fly with him. Gabreski used to rotate new pilots or ones who needed brushing up on combat skills. He used to give his kills to a rookie wen they flew in his flight if they fired a few rounds to build their confidence. Dad was modest on his kills and didn't even display kill markings as the others but always maintained total between 16 and 20.

Thanks mate! Both my grandfathers were in ww2 but they didnt like to talk about it.
Getting each little drop of info took real effort, maybe thatswhy I got huge interest in history in general.
I admire polish pilots who fought in ww2 far away from their homeland where they could not return after the war because of the soviets.
I'm from Hungary and know a lot about Poland and polish history. Theres even a Polish-Hungarian friendship day since 2007, it was 4 days ago so me helping you now is kinda appropriate :)

I am in the process of nagotiation with a publisher regarding dad's manuscript which I have edited to get it to a workable size for publishing next year. It will cover his early life at flying school, officer cadet college, flying in the defence of Lyon / Paris, 317 Polish squadron, 302 Polish Squadron and the 56th FG. so its pretty chunky!!

Krys

PS that pic is wicked, I will send it on to my mother so she can see whats going on with her hubby!

This is a pic of a model made by Nigel Julian who is a 56th FG expert historian. This model is on display in Halesworth museum Ipswich.

First version of the skins: http://www.vpmedia.eu/il2/zip/polish_aces.7z
If you need any detail changed on them, I'm happy to do it.

The only small detail missing is on my fathers jug, just below the front section of the cockpit was a silver horse shoe. It can be seen on this pic if you zoom in. Can it be added? It was about 6-7 inches tall

thanks Vpmedia.
I put the skins of dad's, Gladych's and Gabby's jugs into the game and they look amazing...
well done to all.
I have downloaded and patched the game to 4.10.1, and downloaded the UP3 superpack to add as well. I have the DBW files as well, I know its not the right place but do you guys recommend uppatching the game with these files?
