Human making gestures
« on: March 30, 2013, 06:12:34 AM »

Hi!

First of all, sorry if my lack of knowledge is inducing me to ask something impossible to be implemented, but I wonder if the humans could be programmed so that they were able to make gestures inside cockpit, both player and AI (something similar we can see in ROF...).
Also, since the dudes can already run everywhere maybe they could walk too. Then we could put them on maps like vehicles. It would be nice to see that at the aerodromes and carriers!
BTW, are humans behavior hardcoded ingame? Sometimes I think so because its difficult to believe anyone did never had this idea before... :P

Cheers! :D

That would be great! I think it's very hard but maybe some wizard can do...
Even a simple walk model would be great :)

Hmmm.  Is that historically correct?  Did "the bird" exist as a hand gesture that translated into an insult back during WW2?  Inquiring minds want to know.   ;D

Dear Inquiring Minds,

To answer your question; yes.

Giving the finger, or equivalent hand gesture, goes back to the dawn of creation. Some Biblical scholars are convinced Eve used it and that is what really started all the trouble. Or, if you prefer, it is why flippers and fins evolved into hands and fingers. You don't really need a thumb so this nonverbal "fuck you" can even be used by other species.

Back in the 60's there was a huge gorilla displayed in a tiny cage at the Snake Farm outside of New Orleans in LaPlace, Louisiana, USA. Stopping there was the highlight of any trip my family made when I was a kid. Whenever the gorilla was in the mood, she would crap in her hand and fling it at onlookers. Thank God for the plexiglass shield they eventually erected. With the shield up and the shit assault not quite as fun, to the horror of my parents and the delight of my Grandmother, the gorilla simply gave you the finger. I'm pretty sure she knew what it meant too. This is where I learned it.

I'm also sure I've seen my border collie use it a time or two. So I don't think an enemy pilot would have any trouble understanding the meaning of this salute as you are shooting at him.

I'm giving the finger mod two enthusiastic thumbs up.

Okay now where talking about the theoretics. But what about the praxis? How could we do this "finger" in Il-2? If have really no idea.

Hitting a specific button causes a canopy to animate open...

Hitting a specific button causes a hand to animate the gesture...

A modder would need to make a arm/hand animation and then a keystroke to command it...

I'd map it to ctrl+F+U
