Housemade Axial Propeller
« on: April 08, 2013, 01:56:10 PM »

Hello !

As promised, and as title says, during the last month my father and me have made a wooden First World War propeller, a german one from the brand Axial. I'm sure you have seen it thousand of times in our Dr.1s and D.VII ! :)

Well, it is not 1/1 scale, because it is 2,6 meters!!  8) 8) So we decided to make a smaller scale, but that it had an important size (43 centimeter). Then, the other problem was researching for the plans, but after looking on specialized pages I found one. Also photographies were very important, I remember one that appears Werner Voss and his Dr.1.

Finally, we made a 'first try' with pine-tree wood (on the left), and then the final model (on the right) with walnut and oak wood, like real ones.

Ended project photos:

I forgot to say I have alittle 1/6th scale figure collection, and I made a pilot with loose parts  8)

Here you have links of propeller, if someone is interested  ;)
