Photo Recon
« on: April 11, 2013, 07:25:04 AM »

Would it be possible to have a historically correct camera position fitted to photo recon variants of game aircraft(i.e. the Spitfire Mk XI or Mustang I) then PR sorties could be made with a simple keystoke for the snapshot. If the resulting picture could be saved for viewing all the better!

I had that idea for a very long time. Yeah that is a good idea. Would be cool for coop campaigns and stuff like that!

Have one photo recon airplane about 5-10 miles ahead of the main attack force and once the recon plane locates the exact attack point (AA, trucks, tanks, ect) the location is sent to the attack group so they know exactly where the emeny target is.

Examples that could be sent over the radio could be:

"100 feet from bridge!"
"center of town!"
"dead ahead!"

ect.

Once the attack force reaches the waypoint, the photo recon plane can circle the area and take black and white pictures/videos.

I like this idea...  It would basically be a different/new bombsight... With a screenshot capability.... And it creates two new mission types as mentioned above.

Falcon 4.0 had this (though I don't think it actually took pictures).  It was a pod you loaded up and it made a circle in the HUD so you knew where the camera was aimed... Then if you clicked it with the reticle on the target you got a mission succes.

I like the BDA missions too! Bomb damage assessment after a flight of B-17's!

I think that one old sim had something like that, maybe A-10 tank killer or F-19 Stealth Fighter, I don't remember for sure.
Some missions were just like you said, if you succeed taking the recon photo, your mission is a success.

The traditional bombsight in the game could be rebuilt to include zoom options and a wider range of rotation so the pilot could be out of the danger zone...
