What? Slow down below Mach 1, it's the most manouverable jet I flew in Il-2, while MiG-19 is one of the least.

Mati.. you doing something wrong...  ;D MiG 19 is one of the deadliest close in dogfighters we have! It can turn and scissor with the best! And three cannons that make short work of anyone who gets in the way. In the turning fight air speed is key... faster is not always better... MiG 19 turns wonderfully if you slow a bit.. then, use your powerful afterburn to close the gap. Then its weapons free.. GunsGunsGuns!

... and MiG 21 is awesome too... just always keep your exit route handy... two missiles is maybe one kill... the gun pod stays empty...  ;D but its a dream to fly... so much power!

You're doing something wrong as well. Slow down in your MiG-21 to 500-600 kph, pull the stick until you stall (yes, stall it on purpose, ignore that stall message and heavy shaking, it won't go into spin), than ignite full afterburner (110%) - this way you'll get the most from it's delta-type wing, making it turn like an X-wing with an insane AoA. Note: in this "high AoA mode" plane rolls better if you apply full rudder into desired direction. Don't worry, it won't spin unless you put it into spin on purpose (read: try to do a full 360 using this method). If you ever played DCS Flanker/Lock On/Flaming Cliffs, you'll find this handling familiar (that's how Flanker behaves in dogfights as well, though Flanker is more agile that Fishbed).

I agree with you mati, the fishbed is surprisingly agile in a dogfight. I fly against my brothers, LAN dogfights. There's four of us, two against two. Its tons of fun! The MiG 21 is deadly against all comers... even against sparrow armed phantoms.  ;D ...that is if I can get close enough! LOL

MiG-21 is Mach 2 capable, if you maintain optimal altitude and are good at tactics, you can bring the fight to CAC, in which MiG-21 is superior against Phantoms (though Phantoms, for such heavy fighters, are pretty agile too). Since AI can't yet engage at BVR (which will probably change when F-18 comes out), you should try to approach them from side/back and rush into them at maximum power. If you fight against humans than, well, you'll need to use some of it's manouverability yo dodge Sparrows. If you menage to do a neutral pass, than just deploy airbrakes, than AB again and do the X-wing. Phantom, Carrying full missile load, is actually slower and less manouverable than Fishbed. Once third gen MiGs come out it should be easier to get into close range, thanks to countermeasures.

I remember when testing Phantom, I've made AIM-7s on AI controlled planes capable of BVR, but that was a total overkill, so we removed that feature. I think it is quite easy to make.

I remember when testing Phantom, I've made AIM-7s on AI controlled planes capable of BVR, but that was a total overkill, so we removed that feature. I think it is quite easy to make.

And I think it should stay that way. When Phantom pit and avionics are finnished/RWR on MiG-21 is finnished and capable of detecting being locked on with missiles (SPO-2 wouldn't detect incoming missile but it would warn about being locked on with enemy jet's radar, which means that the missile is probably in the air as well) AND the AI are made capable of evasive manouvers (even a simple "pull up and fly at 90* to the incoming missle), than BVR may be enabled for AI. Especially that in Vietnam Phantom pilots had to confirm their target visually before engaging, so even BVR missiles were fired WVR (although I sometimes get frustrated when I fly a Phantom, lock on (random targets) and fire my Sparrows at BVR and I can't anyhow convince my wingmen to engage - "Unable to comply")

EDIT:1. Has anyone noticed that AI Fishbeds' glidepaths are like 5 times longer than for any other plane/jet (talking about 4.10 here)? They go as far as 20 km on round, and land at ridicoulusly low glidepath angle. The altitude isn't increased accordingly, in fact they sometimes fly even lower. If there is a hill range within 20km from airfield, they will crash. E.g. on Slovakia '55 map they fail to land on every single airfield.

2. I noticed another strange glitch with AI flight leaders. Every few seconds they teleport few meters forward and then they teleport back into position instantly. Each time this glitch happens it spawns 'java.lang.NullPointerException' in log.

I get an error message when I select MiG-21 PFM in QMB , while loading map :

It means :
" instruction 0x5f0753e " uses " 0x0000051c " memory adress . Memory cannot be " read " "

My install is 4.10.1 + ModAct 3 + Jetwar 1.2

Other versions of MiG-21 do work .

Hi mate!

Just installed on my 410 DBW 1.71 installation the last MiG21 fix , with the last Engines hotfixes and JW 1.32 hotfix and got a lot of slideshoot effect when flying and in my log this report is repeated countless:

Code: [Select]
        java.lang.NullPointerException

at com.maddox.il2.game.GameWin3D.main(GameWin3D.java:235)

Moreover when MiG is destroyed from a missile I still see like a tracer freezed at midair....maybe related with this I find at the end of log:

Code: [Select]
ObjState.finalize: Object of com.maddox.il2.objects.weapons.MGunNull NOT destroyed
ObjState.finalize: Object of com.maddox.il2.objects.weapons.MGunNull NOT destroyed

ObjState.finalize: Object of com.maddox.il2.objects.weapons.MGunNull NOT destroyed
ObjState.finalize: Object of com.maddox.il2.objects.weapons.MGunNull NOT destroyed

Other strange issue that I don't noticed before is that when engaging MiGs now use less their missiles even if them are in a wondeful 'six' position and at a distance which is decreasing from about 1800 meters....and K-13 is engaded....

On 411 the error message isn't present (apart the weapon one at the end of the log) but the MiGs have the same unshooting behaviour....
