R-1 empty weight, 1,840 lb (838kg) with 160 gal (605 l) of fuel and 18 gal (68 l)for oil.Pratt&Whitney R1340 "Wasp" engine developing around 730hp.
The R-1 was built specifically for the Thompson Trophy race (pylon racing).

R-2 empty weight of 1,796 lb (814 kg) with 302 gal (1143 l) of fuel and 20 gal (75 l) for oil.Pratt&Whitney R985  rated at 535hp.
The R-2 was built for the Bendix Trophy race (cross country racing).

With such amount of fuell you can use 10-20% and it will be enough for flying.
