Hello cgagan,

great as always.

Just a question to Alfie:

I love your amazing shots too but why do you cut the screenshots always?

What needed is for me: 16:9 shots!  ;)

No criticism, just a note.

Best regerds, Gerhard  :)

From a US Spitfire campaign on VP Modpack:

I usually scoff at the little online maps, but VP did an OUTSTANDING job with the retextures! I love the dune textures especially, something you don't even see on the stock desert maps.

I had a very interesting combat today I must say! After knocking down a Me-323 in a vertical dive and flaming a Macchi, 88mm flak took out BOTH my elevator and flap controls, and yet I still managed to kill two more MC. 202s by flipping on my back whenever I needed to go down. Flying, and especially combat becomes very difficult when only the throttle can be used for pitch control! I considered bailing out, but where's the challenge in that? I zoomed down over the airfield for a somewhat bumpy landing, barely missing my wingman sitting in the middle of the runway. I am somewhat proud of my accomplishments, although I may have cracked up the airframe a bit!

P.S., in the mission report, there was a icon which read: Me-323 shot down by Me-323.  o_O  I'm not going to question that.  :P

Good question BK  :)

Making screenshots is very subjective...we all have different styles/ areas of interest etc
I think my style is more graphic than most and I find that close cropping and asymmetric framing increases a pictures dynamism ......

Dr 1  shots above....

First shot is of a tiny fragile machine of wood and canvas floating precariously in the vastness of the sky
Second shot is a close up of a superbly designed killing machine

Two shots taken at the same time...... ;D

I don't photoshop skies/ explosions etc into my shots...in my mind the shot ceases to be IL2 if you do  :D
I do use photoshop to sightly increase sharpness + antiailas
I love shots of new a/c & new skins etc.....but these are useful headups not screenshots.... :D
Sweetening screenshots can be fun...but I far prefer using the date/weather conditions/time to subtly change the colous of the picture...the game is very capable of generating gorgeous soft tones..personally I find Sweet FX colours etc a little aggressive and er...loud  :D :D :D
Also...I've made many screenshots so, an a/c rendered with almost photographic quality placed centrally in a frame, I find ever so slightly ...dull  :(
I do like seeing new newer member's screenshots and I'm hoping Monty's new BAT developments will get the young'uns flying THE BEST FLIGHT SIM EVER  8)

Cheers

Alfie

P.S I'm also an admirer/ disciple of J T Smith......his 1797 book Remarks on Rural Scenery is a masterpiece...my cover was blown by our resident Fine Art expert Mike late last year   :D :D :D

I usually scoff at the little online maps, but VP did an OUTSTANDING job with the retextures! I love the dune textures especially, something you don't even see on the stock desert maps.

Retextures of several desert maps like Sands of Time, MTO and Desert Online were done years ago (2010) by Redko.
They still look superb. As far as I know vpmedia left them untouched.

Interesting, I didn't know that. My thanks to Mr. Redko then! I never really had time to install individual maps and mods, so the first time I usually see anything non-stock is in VP Modpack or BAT.
