Stock Burma Re-work
« on: February 11, 2010, 10:32:26 AM »

Hi All,
Been learning the map-makers art lately and thought I'd start with a facelift of the stock Burma map. It was always so disappointing..

So I completely re-textured it with lots more steamy jungle

new towns/villages

messed with the airfields too

spent more time than I care to think about moving/placing objects

the result for me is more satisfyingly jungley and Burma-ish

If any of you guys want it - I've never posted a mod before - I'll try and work out how to do it...ha, ha

It's got to be an improvement on this though

Now I'm off strafing up the Tamu Road

O yeh, nearly forgot, I did a fair bit of editing of map_t and a bit of map_c.

Cheers mate - I've no idea why the pics came out teeny! lol I'll try and sort it.. I started this cos I wanted jungle-lined rivers and because the stock map was so anaemic!

The last one is the one I would like to see. From what I can tell you have done great with the jungle.
Another map that could use someones attention is the Berlin map. ??? Poor thing is flat as a board and screaming for a faclift. ;D

Pics fixed.

Shouldn't be any fps hit cos I lined the rivers with texture not forest - will have to thank Avala among others, for his jungle texture which I adapted/mutilated. The Imphal texture  I made from GoogleEarth and the outskirts of Rangoon.

You're right about Berlin, Bombs...also Stalingrad an Moscow..they're awful by todays modding standards.

As I said, credit is due Avala, Agracier and IJ_Jeremiah for the jungle textures I used and abused horrifically for this.

Thanks for this Ramone

That original Burma map always looked too fluro for me an the jungle was always very squared looking in large amounts of jungle.

I've also got the World at War series on DVD and the Burma documentary truly shows what conditions were met by the troops.

Burma is very mountainous and hilly not like the original map.

If you'd like to have a crack of a true Burma map I made a starter map of North Burma and Yunnan China. A hug difference in terrian.

If you'd like the map let me know.

Cheers Kirby

Hi Ramone,

It's in my Download China Starter map pack here in the PTO section.
The map is called China_Kunming It's 1:1 scale

You'll have to learn a lot with this map.
one texture only no rivers etc. just land.

Personally I released another retextured version of this map, but was incompatible with the old one :P.
The "too much jungle and hilly" apply to the Northern Burma area around Myitkyina. Also you must consider this Lower Burma is dry and dusty during the dry season in which most of the operations were flown. So i found it quite accurate in terms of the amount of jungle. Anyway the new textures are needed. Specially the cultivated fields, there are still airfields missing like in Kyautaw. The ed_m01 and ed_m02 needs rework too. And the water color of the rivers.
