Hi guys.

I'm gonna reverse the trend of this thread here and tell you about some food that I tried that was quite the opposite from favourite....

My wife Eleni is Greek and comes from the province of Sparta, when we first met I went to Sparti with her to be introduced to her family and friends and shown around, she took to me to a festival that celebrated Spartan tradition, culture and history and we found our way into an arena where they were putting on a little play and a re-enactment. There was this guy dressed up as a Spartan warrior clutching a 6 foot staff and shouting things into the audience, suddenly Eleni puts her hand up and before I know it I've been volunteered to become a Spartan soldier, so I'm dragged off with half a dozen other reluctant volunteers behind a curtained off area and dressed in a little red skirt, sandals, given a spear, a shield and a Spartan helmet, then kicked back out into arena so that a thousand onlookers can have themselves a bloody good laugh!....

Anyway to cut this short we new recruits into the Spartan army were then subjected to all sorts of humiliating ordeals for the entertainment of the crowd and every time that we got it wrong the bastard recruitment officer would whack us round the back of the legs with his 6 foot staff and he wasn't being gentle either, me being the only English recruit and who couldn't understand a darn would that he was saying was getting whacked more than the others and I was getting pretty pissed off with it! soon it was lunch time in the Spartan army and we were gonna be fed some traditional army food....this was called Spartan blood broth and was made of barley oats, pigs blood, vinager and salt all stirred together and boiled over an open fire....now I've done plenty of survival training in my life and eaten all sorts of rank shit from earthwworms, cockroaches, every kind of insect and grub that God invented to hedgehogs, rats and even dogs brains but this blood broth was something special!

When it came to my turn to scoff down a belly full I thought what the heck I've eaten worse crap than this and if that bastard whacks me with his staff one more time then I'm gonna be forced to take it off him, bend him over the table and shove it into territory not invaded since Alexander the Great decided that he didn't like girls.......and that I knew was not gonna make a big impression on my new girlfriend at all so I took a spoonful of blood broth and ate it!

I have never in my life tasted anything so disgustingly revolting, I would sooner have eaten the contents of the solitary, fly infested portaloo that a thousand people had been queuing to use under the hot Greek sun then eat another spoofull of that shit, no wonder the ancient Spartan warriors fought to the death, if it was a choice of that or going back to camp and facing a bowl of blood broth for dinner then I would be only to happy to hurl myself onto enemy spears.

Spartan blood broth.....YUK!!.... you wont be finding that on the menu at McDonalds anytime soon!

Something else I like, except cheese :

Nice "rôti de porc à la broche" (roasted pork, that I will do for my birthday, as I do every year with family and friends in my garden...).
