Hello im new here and new to the modding. I tried to add so far only one new plane to hsfx 7.1 4.12.2m. I have check lots of different old threads etc on how to add new plane to il2/hsfx and nothing works so far, whenever i add string for the plane to air.ini the game crash at 60%. Tried lots of different diff fms and buttons, nothing works and at this point i have no idea what can i do anymore. Could anyone be helpfull and guide me step by step how to add them? Do it as you would do for clean il2 with hfx 7.1 installed and dont skip any (even if obvious for you) steps since its my first time with il2 modding.

Boelcke,

You are right.  In my install I had to comment out a fair number of non-WWII planes to add a few more planes, and even with that you can add perhaps >10 planes (depending on class file load?) before you reach the limit.

I do like to the HSFX package, but there are trade-off:

1)  Compatibility issues - adding plane, even 4.12.2m compatible ones, is tricky with the HSFX buttons file
2)  It seems to be very heavy on the back end, which makes adding new planes problematic. 

Curiously this does not have the number of maps or DBW, and the default plane choices can be streamlined.

I am exploring multiple installs, one with with HSFX 7 but splitting mod packages into theater (ETO, PTO, MTO, etc.) to allow more planes, and another based on ModAct but focusing on only WWII planes and using SFS packs whenever available.

Some planes can be added , but when trying to launch a mission with them , the mission load until 100 % , then crashes  , and an error message comes : " mission loading failed : null ".
What could be the reason for this , please ?

The B 26 causes only the "Null" message when loading a mission.

Interesting is that it was possible more than a dozen planes in normal mode without problems, in expert mode i had a lot of problems even with only two or three planes added.

I was able to install many planes, and also works with the expert mode . I had to install  "AutoDiffFM_HSFX701_Expert-Normal mode" (ton414) and last SAS buttons (10.5 Test for Engine Mod)

(NOTE from ben_wh:  I managed to add those underlined above without changing button file from HSFX7, but you will need the AutoDiffFM for HSFX7)

Tony, yes, if we replace the HSFX7 button with the ModAct button (10.5) the door opens - I can also add

  Hey Guys:
  Thank You for this thread.  It got me going on HSFX 7 and now I am unstoppable.  Today I randomly added the Gee Bee Racer.  Its a favorite among us "old guys".  See link below.  I also imported a lot of stuff from DBW to HSFX.  Mainly my QMB stuff (Maps and missions).

Thanks again for providing us with the knowledge and encouragement.

Expert mode has it´s own button file, so if you use other buton files you don´t have Expert mode anymore.

Added the First Mig-21 trio today.  I will try the new ones next WhooHoo

  They "work" but have no loadouts.  So I took them out.  I will continue to fly my two installs till DBW2 comes out. 
  In this install, I added Eng Mod 2.7 and SAS 10.5 buttons and now I can run the 262TPF with loadouts and everything.
