Fix request for visual anomaly on carrier takeoffs
« on: November 17, 2013, 10:01:49 PM »

Certainly most of you already noticed this ugly phenomenon, and since an image is better than a thousand words, please, see the video below:

As you can see, about 25% of right wing pierces the superstructure. It happens repeatedly notwithstanding diferently with several naval planes operating in diferent classes of carrier ships. This is almost not observable on japanese carriers, certainly because their diminutive superstructures compared with american carriers, by far the most affected. Usually, those planes alligned to port of flight deck are most susceptible to this because they start their takeoff runs with rudder at full right in order to adjust takeoff path.
I wonder if some skilled modder could get interested on searching a solution to this, perhaps slightly changing the path of takeoff run and (even better) "hardening" the superstructures...

Notes:
This visual "bug" occurs with many buildings on ground operations but it's  particularly annoying on carrier operations since there is no way to be avoided or disguised!
I've made a similar request to TD at 1C forum.

but, if the superstructure gets 'hardened', as you put it, then the planes will constantly be exploding instead of taking off safely, surely.....?

Well, yes but, guess the idea is not to touch the superstructure, right? :D
Of course I'm talking about AI behaviour...

well, i think it's going to cause more problems than it solves, personally, and would suggest that in this instance, we 'let sleeping dogs lie' ;)

Fortunately, this bug exists!
Otherwise I never managed to take off with some planes!  :D

Blazing,
I've used the term "bug" merely as force of expression. Of course it is not. Perhaps it can be regarded just as a feature which could be improved and nothing else.

Benno,
As stated before, I'm talking about AI controlled planes.
I swear that I can manage to avoid "striking the island" during the takeoff run... :D
and yes, I'm pretty sure that this bug (damn! Wrong word again...) occurs on v4.09

Anyway, if the superstructures were not so...permeable, the game would certainly be more realistic, mainly in cases of bad landings. Sometimes it happened that I've failled on getting hooked after a wrong approach but even so I managed to avoid dying among a great ball of fire on flight deck or at least having a ripped out wing thanks to the "soft" steel with which ingame carriers are made of...
Not necessary to say that my friends watching the scene said:
"Hey mate! This is a fraud!!"
Don't know about you, but I'm prone to agree with them... :-\

Use the carrier take-off mod and set AI to catapults :P They will spawn at the catapult and miss the superstructure all together ;)

Hmm...that "pop up"! The cure would be worse than the disease since we're talking about realism.
I always disliked the catapult mods because of this... :-X
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit:
BTW, now that you've made mention to "spawn", I remember another old aspiration of mine:
Planes not despawning after landing on carrier but taxiing to the starboard front half of flight deck, after the superstructure, of course. Perhaps we could have at least half a dozen planes put together in that place. Can you imagine the "strong emotions" you would experience during landing approaches seeing a crowded deck something in front of you? 8)
What a game! Huh?
But let this for another request. Think the current one is enough for the moment... ;D
