RAF Ground Crew Beta Release
« on: December 08, 2013, 07:37:30 PM »

Here's my attempt at ground crew immersion items.  This is a "beta" release so that people can try them and let me know if there are any problems.
My finished Bren gun Carrier (or Universal Carrier for the purists, LOL) is included.

A couple of things I've noticed and will try to resolve:
1.  Bottom of the pilots shoes are "invisible", not solid (not sure why).
2.  The fuel hoses are an attempt to provide some flexibility in "refuelling" various aircraft (I realise that some fighters have a fuel tank in front of the cockpit so another figure might be in order ;)  )
3.  There probably should be toolboxes and aircraft panels lying around, I'll work on that.

Fuel bowser and a couple of independent hoses (manipulate them in FMB to line them up).  The figures are included and are separate.

Various ground crew poses plus the inevitable staff officer with his clipboard, LOL.  Their height (altitude) can be adjusted within their respective static.ini data so you can adjust for various aircraft.
NOTE: you'll notice the engine of the Spitfire is "exposed".  This was a bit o' cheating on my part in that the engine "picture" is part of the figure (you'll see what I mean).  So it was just a matter of placing him close enough so that the picture of the engine and the Spit itself were almost touching.  This same guy could be used on the ladder up against a Lancaster simply by adjusting his height.

A couple of relaxing pilots and some staff weenies on the control tower.

These are not works of art and trying to keep the polys down was a challenge.  Hopefully there will be no slowing of the game.  Any problems/issues/suggestions please feel free to respond to this post.

THX a lot Tomoose, I'll make good use of them ...!!  :D

Regarding the polys problem, according to Freddy, the number of polys is not the problem, it is the number of faces per .msh that is limited to 3000, so if an object is too big then you only need to cut it into several .msh ...

Still according to Freddy, .tga files are the fps killers, that's the reason why he now makes his cockpits in 3D and doesn't use .tgas ...  ;)

... Tomoose, I believe you can easily downsize the .tgas, most are 3Mb or 4Mb, 1024x1024, especially the figures, which could be as small as 256x256 with no visual difference or loss of quality ...

Vehicles should be OK at 512x512 too ...  ;)

Just my 2 cents ...  :)

Mick;
thanks for the tip.  Being a noob in modding, I wasn't sure about the difference in size and assumed the smaller the less detail.  I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
