I'm playing with the map making tutorial, but I'm stuck.

None of the tools provided (or that I've downloaded) allow me to make Map_C.

In particular, Redwulf's Map_c Toolbox doesn't give me the "Create" option.

The older Map_C utility included in KevinP's tutorial doesn't seem to work either.

AFAIK, I'm doing everything right with converting my "gray map" into TGA format (no file compression).

no tools allow you to make Map_C ?
You need to create map_C when you create a map from scratch using DEM,that is when the initial map files are created!

I dont have access to any tools,or the game even at the moment
but you can create a mapC with Redwulfs tool
but you need a compressed map_c to start with
The tool will only compress a map C or Uncompressed it
You still need an actual map_c to work with though

It can be used to convert a compressed map_c and map_c table file into a workable MyMap_C as it is commonly refereed to
for working on a map_c of a map already working in game

I'm not sure what your trying to do
wehter your building a map from scratch with DEM
(Which is needed to create a map_C)
Or if you are trying to work on a map_c of a map that already exists

If in fact,you are creating from scratch or even converting a map_C already made
the Map_C and map_H need to be in exact specific dimensions or the tool will not allow operation/creation

Thanks for your help. You gave me an idea that allowed me to fix my own problem.

I did not properly crop my map images so that its dimensions were in units of pixels divisible by 32. That prevented the Map_C programs from working.

While the map_c tools included with Kevin P's 4th Edition Mapmaking tutorial do not work, Redwulf's Map_C Toolkit did the trick.

FWIW, rather than creating a rather useless map of Manam Island, I am attempting to create the island of Nauru. Almost as simple, but actually big enough that you can put an airfield on it.
