Dutch New Guinea Operation Reckless Stage 1
« on: January 04, 2014, 03:35:51 AM »

Dutch New Guinea   Operation Reckless

You may be asking yourself "What in the hell happened in Dutch New Guinea now Irian Jaya in W.W.2?"
This region is an overlooked region regarding The Battle of The Pacific.

Operation Reckless was the invasion of Hollandia followed by an invasion of Biak Island and paratrooper drops on Noemfoor Island.
There were some minor operations around Maffin Bay. The final achievement was to retake Sorong and its sea plane base.

After this area was completely secured General Macarthur used it as a massive staging area for the invasion of the Philippines.

All named airfields are historically correct. There are extras for further game play.

It is based around early 1944 pre Operation Reckless but it is a generic map without any Japanese flags etc.

The Map

This map has been an on going project over the last six months or so. It is a map from scratch and it is now reasonably ok for a first stage release.
The map is about 80 percent complete.

The coastlines have been completely detailed.
The coastline beaches and river banks have been texture detailed.
The choice of textures has been finalized.
About 80 percent of the map has been wooded out. (good ol' f key and fmb)
Some airfields have been populated.
A number of towns have been populated.
A valley called Shangrila has been populated.

The remaining 20 percent.

I have NOT touched water in anyway as yet. Initially I wanted to show people what Microdem can be capable of regarding making rivers in Microdem. Microdem can turn out some good oceans,
lakes and rivers and sometimes not. It can be pot luck. Eventhough on one for fun project I got the entire Meakong River with just the odd narrow section no breakages at all.
You'll see screens of this in the release thread.

River map_h work continues
Shallows and Reefs continues
Final wooding continues
Highland zone area population continues

I think I have done my best to make it so knarly looking that it would be " A world of hurt" if you had to do an emergancy crash in Dutch New Guinea not just avoiding the Japanese
but head hunter tribes whom have never seen a white man before too!

DBW Install

The map has been made in UP3 tested in DBW adding the _Tex folder into DBW will make it load and work flawlessly

ModAct Install

For those using a ModAct you will need this texture land/pacific/JungleKT.tga I have sourced this texture and now with this texture and others in the _Tex folder it should load

into a ModAct

https://www.mediafire.com/download/m3p763f18692u2b/Modacttexture.rar

You will also need SAS~Boomer's Object Pack in original or sfs file form and Max The Hitman's Repainted Huts.

Other Mods needed for this map

Max The Hitmans new repainted Huts are a definite requirement for this map to load effectively.

Bender's Ultimate Environment also can be very useful creating massive storm fronts and rainy days in Dutch New Guinea.

So this is STAGE ONE

Look forward to final STAGE TWO.

Thank you. Great map and I really appreciate how you have listed textures and objects necessary to make it work. It would be good if that became standard practice for all published maps.
