The main problem of the Stalingrad map is, that many of the canals and reservoirs shown on it did not exist during the war, for example the large Tsimlyansk Reservoir near Nizhniy Chir or the Volga-Don canal were completed in the 1950s. I don't know if it is possible to fix this. I guess this would be a lot of work.

By the way, I hope we will also see a winter version in the future.

And have you got some good map with rivers around Nizhniy Chir from our season of 1942 year?

Maybe someone can also post a screenshot of the BoS map. As far as I know they have used old map data to create it, so it should be quite accurate.

Hi cyberolas. I was working on a new Stalingrad map some time back, but never got further than creating map_h and map_c, plus some research. Here's the map_c which shows the rivers, using period maps, rather than the post war version in-game.

If you feel you can use it then drop me a pm with your email and and I'll send the .psd file over. There's lots of other layers in it too; roads, rails and the period maps etc.

Oh my god! Nizhnyj Chir looks very different! I will have to rework it. Thank you my boys for your help!

Thank you Cat, but I will have to choice some compromise between our game default version and reality from 1942 year. I will cancel large dams and edit some rivers. For example delta rivers in opposite Stalingrad looks good, even if scale of this part is discutable, I know. DonĀ“t you have a few rivers in cetre part of this map? I have more rivers...

Yes, there probably would have been a few more rivers if I'd finished it, although I'm not a great fan of little streams appearing 100m wide as on the stock maps. The major ones are ok though - Volga, Don, Chir and Karpovka. You're welcome to use what you can of my stuff; it might save you a bit of time by dropping bits in rather than redrawing them.

Here's the detail (roads & rails as well) over the oldest maps I could get:
