Why the original CFM was not cancelled:

Monty is working in an enhanced CFM. So as far as what the original plan was last week, no it will not be that CFM, it will be something much better. He is actively working with his team as we speak, and I continue to support this project, albeit in a very small role. So no: CFM is NOT cancelled... it is just that the original plan of making CFM an easier-to-install TFM with some additional content, has grown to something much better, and much more stable. Patience and soon Monty will make the official statement of what the features are for this new pack. And believe me it will blow your mind. But wait, I already said too much. (Why am I posting here? Because Monty asked me to do a little Public Relations to assure the masses the work is really ongoing, and it is. Let us wait patiently and as he allows me to release additional info, I will.

as far as I'm concerned that means Monty has stopped working on the original idea of CFM ( for what ever reason) and is now working on something different that is much better but not quite CFM. considering this announcement  was made so close to the release of the much awaited CFM  it is only natural to to wonder.  So what is it? how long will this take? why not let us know?

I am getting antsy waiting for word too, I think we all are but the revision to their plan will result in a better CFM.

These guys have never failed us, let's give them another 5 minutes.

"NOT cancelled"  means what?  a small "this is why we cancelled CFM" and a "this is what we plan for the new CFM" and an "it will be released about.................." would be great.

Here are a few answers:
* CFM is NOT cancelled means what?  --> It means that the work in CFM did not go to waste and is being actively used for something better.

* This is why we cancelled CFM.  -->  Not "we", Monty is the project owner and he cancelled it, because he did not feel it was ready to be released.  During the process of creating CFM, Monty and his principal project builders were throwing around other concepts on how to make IL-2 better, more modern, more all encompassing.  They did a bit more than that, they started this new effort in parallel and prior to the cancelled release of CFM.  In the end Monty and his closest team members decided that they wanted to concentrate their efforts on the more advanced concept.

* So what is it?  -->  I cannot tell you until Monty gives me the go ahead to release the information.  It is based on the work of TFM and CFM, but it is not TFM or CFM, it has evolved into something better.  I have been testing parts of it, and am also providing some content for it.  Like I said, the main point that I hope everyone can be happy about is that yes, there is an active project, it is happening as we speak, and there is even documentation already in production.

* How long will this take?  -->  When I have an estimate, I, or someone from the team (you know, with higher authority blessing and all), will tell the community.

* Why not let us know? -->  The concept for Monty's upcoming release is somewhat ready, but it is not absolutely locked.  Think of it as the next generation mod super pack (and no that is not its name...).  Let us let Monty and his principal team members concentrate on getting the release version ready.  As I am allowed I'll let the community know.

It comes down to this.  Monty felt that CFM was not good enough to release to the community.  He chose to cancel it because if he released CFM as it was, he would have to spend time in support and troubleshooting that release (adding patches etc) instead of concentrating on working on the new concept which was being designed to be as trouble-free as possible for a mod pack.  These are reasons he told me (well, wrote me) himself, and I am the one passing this on to the community because he specifically asked me to help on a sort of PR function.

I hope this helps.  I know you want the specifics, but I can't pass that on right now.  When I can, I will.

Thanks for the info UberDemon.From what you've posted sounds like a hybrid game is coming to us when everything is ready.The fact that Team Monty is doing this on there own time and it will be free to download should be enough for everyone to wait and relax. 8)I still have a lot of stuff to finish from the other Monty releases.I really don't want to know whats coming.That takes the fun out of it

many thanks UD, a little bit of clarity goes a long way. I think people were getting worked up that they had been promised something that wouldn't be delivered. To know that it is an ongoing project that continues to grow is fantastic news. We all just need to be more patient and accept it will be ready when Monty says so, not today, tomorrow or even in 2 weeks.

In the meanwhile, i for one will continue to enjoy tfm412 and look forward to all the new work Monty has graciously put his creative efforts into.

Take your time and do it right.  UD thanks for the update, and if it must wait until after April 15 that's ok with me.  For those of you not U.S. tax return filers April 15 is the dead line for filing U.S. taxes with out an extension.
