What you think about creating of light (smaller) version of your map? For example, in this theoretical light version you can cut off Guadalkanal, or even Russel islands with Santa-Isabel. This islands not so needed for Solomon islands campaign latest stages (1944), and i think, lesser map you created, less hours of work you need. But maybe i am wrong :) For example, on screenshot two possible "light" versionsI have to create whole new map to make it smaller - would be easier to just leave Guadalcanal etc without airfields and villages. I am still worried by CTD - the map should load ok - If this map not load then finished map not load !

In any case, your map will take important place in "Pearl Harbor - Tokyo"! If you have some questions, or you need info for your work, let me know! We can talk in Skype or e-mail. Now, i have new queastions))
1 - As i know, almost all large maps, like this, usualy have 1/3 or 1/3 scale, so, what scale of your map?
2 - Do you planned to make few versions? I mean versions by years, like stock Solomon islands or NGNB maps.

Hi Motorhead
1- The map is 1/1 - it is huge (Same as stock Solomons). This was at the limit of the maximum size allowed, but it makes the landscape much more realistic - the terrain and mountains on 1/3 scale look very strange; too steep - like a fantasy world from another planet! Even 1/2 terrain looks strange - too squeezed-up. Maybe 1/3 ok on flat terrain, but most Pacific islands are mountainous - I like the terrain to look realistic.
To fly Japanese "Betty" in real time from Kahili to Henderson Field takes 2.0 hours.
Have you managed to load the map yet? Try loading Ceylon map - it is also 1/1 scale - if you have the same CTD problem then the maps may be too big for your PC - let me know

2- Making different years would be quite easy by including required airfields etc.

Hello Mike!
Launch your map in my DGENpack - it runs perfectly! Really great work!
What you think about using of HD textures, just like in "Welcome to Hell - Rabaul 1944" map?

Mike, when you are done with your map I recommend you get into the mechanics of Asura's DGEN campaigns.
It is an incredible tool, not well known in the anglo-saxon hemisphere but well worth the time to study it.
This is one the main reason I am doing my map, to get DGEN campaigns for it.
Motorhead is a top notch guy by the way !

Hi Motorhead,

First I will make a workable version with airfields etc. so you can start building missions; then we can look at using HD textures. At the moment the map has very basic lowland textures and sand beaches (quite boring), there is much work to do on textures but I think it would be ok to maybe copy some textures from Rabaul and change load.ini and see how it looks? But this is an on-going process - I have eventually to make all coastlines look more realistic and have not put many rivers in yet - this takes a long time but you can still build campaign before all this is done - The airfields I think are the crucial part for mission building.

Hello again Zoran
Yes I like Asura's work - I got his DGEN pack for 4.13.2 but haven't really had time to explore its possibilities yet!
By the way - I can't find a link to make a new post in PTO Maps - I think my WIP Ceylon map is at a stage where it could be placed there. How do I make a new post?

regards
Mike

You need to be a "modder" or better a "mapper" to be able to create posts in the section you are interested in.
Go to your forum profile then "Group Membership" to lodge you request.

Update 02.07.2017 - Solomon Islands
« Reply #299 on: July 02, 2017, 01:50:36 PM »

Hello pilots!

Works on Solomon islands campaign is close to the end. All parts, previously released in 2013 highly improved and became much more realistic and detailed. Now added dedicated VF-17 "Jolly Rogers" campaign, and i planned to add VF-214 "Black Sheep" campaign too. Gregory Boyington is my hero, and so long i dreamed about VMF-214 realistic campaign!

I have good news! In "Pearl Harbor - Tokyo" 2013 version Solomon islands campaign ended in december 1943. I don't have map with northern part of Solomons and Rabaul, so i cannot show events of december 1943 - february 1944, when 13th AF and RNZAF launch major air offensive against Rabaul. But now, thanks to Squashman, we have this map, so i can continue campaign, and create final stages of air campaign on Solomons!

This work will take probably 1-2 months. First operation on Squashman map started on december 17, 1943, when 13th AF attack Rabaul for the first time.

Now i show you some screensots from december 1943. I add short operation december 10-15, on stock map "Solomon islands february 1944". At this stage (10-15 december) Torokina fighter strip, first allies airfield on Bougainville, became operable.

IMPORTANT INFO!
All updates and new parts of my campaign is released only with DGENpack official updates. But if someone of you guys don't want to wait when DGENpack update will be released, and you want to play NOW - feel free to write me a message on Skype, e-mail or PM - so i can send you current beta-version.
