New link
Will give some more shots tomorrow. Yeah, it is mainly a merge of textures from other maps, but boy is it fun.

May post some Quicks as well. Solomons named Quicks will not work for this one. Wish modpacks after 4.09m did not come up with such useless and multiplied map naming conventions.

Works for me in 4.12 and 4.09m. Will check install instructions tomorrow again. ;)

Cheers

Thorsten

Edit:

New link with readme and Quick mission, tested map in 4.12, should work in 4.09m as well
https://www.mediafire.com/download/vhrsybsoapnd8kn/Slot+mapmod--you+need+ag_Woodlark+and+MiSP+Pacific+first.rar

The map has no concrete runways, that is just my UP2 install.. ;)

You still need the prerequisits, the following mods:
As per post No 1:
The MisP Pacific map WIP
Agracier's Woodlark map
The High rez mod

I will eventually update this.
ATM working on adding a sh*tload of palm trees at and around Guadalcanal up to Vella la Vella for the 44 map, the Quick mission relevant map.

A very tedious task. ???

Slot surprise/links
« Reply #14 on: October 17, 2015, 08:43:12 AM »

Hi, a new link:

https://www.mediafire.com/download/ena1tbn5c0dt1z0/Slot+mapmodV2.rar

Map with many palms for 01/44 map..

Backup for the latter...inside folder.

Readme included.
;)

You still need these maps:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,38005.0.html

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,33847.0.html

You can though use only their textures which reside in their respective folders as for the agracier and Mixx/Spdr109 maps Woodlark and Trobiand and Mixx/Spdr109 Pacific.
For safety, backup the following texture: ag/Woodlark/Spain_1024_Madagas_Fields_34.tga. (See readme)

You also need the High Res mod:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,33239.0.html

Latest version
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42744.0.html

I use the old one and the light DII by carsmaster.

Additional info:

What's new:

A few edits on texture slot of the load.ini and forest...

Palms. :)...on the Quick mission relevant 01/44 map. A sh**load to be precise-:) pardon my speech.

On following islands I laid palms on the coastal areas and rivers and even some "inland":
Fully covered (coasts and a few inland), airbases-some inland plants as well as rivers:
Guadalcanal, Russel Island (two bigger islands there only) Florida Island and all small islands around

Coasts and airbases:
Vangunu, New Georgia (bigger parts),  Rendova, Kolombongara, Vella La Vella (VMF 214 hehe)
Yes, at some points I may have screwed the pooch with placing slightly in the water, but men, try putting thousands of palms over a map.
There will be variation on placement patterns I hope.

I deliberately added some of them suckers into the water, first off it looks nice like a floody effect and secondly it runs nice among some of the floating forest tiles, which I always found to be looking cool, I did not change any of the map_T.tga placing so far.
Maybe later.

Options.

Sky...Deliberately left the default sky aka one of the older modded skies in, clouds 267/69, anyone who wants one of the new skies to appear can manually edit the load.ini. Maybe I add one of my desert/tropical ones as option.

The same counts for forest, I took what I found to be the best compromise between colour, palm look and newly added palms. Palms will stand out especially at noon, but I like that effect and saw this e.g. on tropical documentaries as well. Not all trees are mono colour in RL.

The random trees are BTW by WhiteCat (the WHC Jungle) ..older version of this map..also by SAS~Boomer originally (PalmTrees).

One last thing I liked to try once I am over the horror binge of adding palms (make that 20 hours) would be a different texture assignment on the huge forest areas. For now I am done.
 :P
Installation is the same as with the previous one-if you do not install the gorgeous new maps by Mixx/Spdr109 and agracier linked in post 1, 12 and here in the readme on top..you can /have to download them anyway and only install the textures-however both maps are marvels.
Readme included. BTW this map is fully jet capable. by default. The screens you see are my personal concrete mod, NOT in this map by default, no worries! :D

For campaign flying I would advise to be careful with the Palm addition 01/44 map version and instead use the old version in case of troubles. But I paid attention to not block the ingress or egress routes of airbases with palms and left space around the runways and even taxiways.
 ;)  :-\

...happy flying..and check the readme, you WILL have Quick missions. Whoever made them made it super! No new objects added! Tested in UP 2.01 and ModAct 5.3. For adding maps in ModAct 5.3, check the how to install maps in 4.12 topic in the mapmods section of this forum.
 :P
Cheers

Thorsten

Add ons:
mod palms
https://www.mediafire.com/download/zxuw6lltzdnae3i/0_brownishPalms.rar

Best thing is through use of far tex and underlying tex, the forest repetition effect seems bearable, especially with clouds. So the assigned tex do their job.

Sky

Backup texture singular for replaced tex

Screens!! A load

Hey Guys,

This is likely a dumb question , so , being dumb I am going to ask it anyway.

This is an intriguing mod on one of the quintessential IL2 maps.

My question is this : will this mod and (by inference) the hi-res mod package function in an instalment NOT using Perfect
              Map Textures in set up?

Thanks for this work , which I hope to enjoy in the near future.

Very nice. Love the hi-res stuff added to the map.

But I wouldn't have changed the texture at Barakoma for what you have there. Too much green fuzzy stuff. When the maps were made, great effort went into trying to recreate the historical feel of many of the airfields, based on photographs. Mind you, what we had at our disposal was limited to what was in 4.08/4.09b at the time, before it was submitted to TD for inclusion in official patches.

Surely on that airfield and others the default version may fit nicely or better. :P
The map will not necessarily be correct on each place but rather work as hopefully entertaining overall Slot look-alike, exploiting new textures from artists far more talented.

Collected a number of RL photos to compare and google shows places that vote rather for the default look as well as others where the map fits. Intention was not to make a map being the next stock version (at all) but rather an entertaining alternative for an overall lush Solomons look. Like I wrote, a real scientifical mapmod would take more effort albeit I took quite some time to test various forest layouts e.g. I was surprised how extremely saturated the look of both the jungle and jungle forest on the mountains as well as the water and sky appears to be.

Maybe one day a more talented map modder will take this area to a new level.
(I hope)
This is also one of the maps where I like the current modpack IL-2 default very much. The good thing is, with the flood of palms, these can be taken manually and added to the legacy Slot map.

Adds a bit in a direction of that lush jungle feeling.

But I wouldn't have changed the texture at Barakoma
for what you have there. ...

Could you clarify this a tad? I may not go into FMB again, but for the record I would love to know if you mean the Tex or the palcing of textures in the FMB+ aka map_T.tga. Map T I did not change one bit, I only siwtched textures.

But this leads to another aspect:
I found that on the Baracoma airfield as well as on many others, parts of them on the 0144 map where covered with forest. If that was not intended, it may be due to the fact that the new textures and texture rooms assigned take more space than initally used, if you understand what I mean.

On a few places it looks downright ridiculous tohave airbase taxiways covered in forest, EXCEPT you assumed it was an effect on purpose, to simulate overgrown jungle on a left field.

--------------

Here is an option for textures:
https://www.mediafire.com/download/42dzgbz75ggm7my/Option+for+Baracoma+airfield+tex.rar

And if you really wanna cry, watch this, looks so much better:
X Plane 10.  ???  TBH all other X Plane 10 videos I saw look rather crappy including all cockpits except airliners, dunno what special mod is going on there. Anyway, IL-2 rules! ;) :D
Think of the COD or BOS engine going Pacific, a dream.

Regarding the optical fun:
For what it is worth, IMO IL-2 and mods still rock, especially in the Pacific and retextured areas.
DaveOD06, Mixx, Bee, DaveOD06, Mixx, agracier, just to name a few of the modders who keep the area up to date, or check SAS~Bombsaway's last Midway mod.

Yes, it still lives! ;)  :)

BTW, extracted the default Slot map, which, as usual IL-2 behaviour I found in two versions inside the SFS files, and compared one of two versions Vella La Vella with my version.

Not much difference except ugly tiling effect on new tex there..and only there, it seems

SOme of the new versions possible with my last upload

Old version

Just for fun.
