Costal Artillery/Batteries
« on: July 25, 2014, 02:05:29 PM »

I would like to request an expansion on this idea presented by Bombs and Skipper:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,41878.0.html

The basic idea is to pull some existing turrets and guns off destroyers and cruisers that are already in game. These could then be turned into coastal artillery guns for defense of islands, etc. These types of guns played a large historical role throughout all theaters of the war, especially in the Pacific.

Here are some examples of what I'm talking about.

Type 3 120 mm (4.7") 45 caliber naval gun on Minekaze class:

Type 3 120 mm (4.7") 45 caliber naval gun without a shield on an escort:

4 inch/50 gun (102 mm) on Wickes class:

4 inch/50 gun (102 mm) without a shield on Wickes class:

Mark 12 5"/38 (127mm) Mk30 Mod1 single mount on Casablanca class:

Type 3 120 mm (4.7") 45 caliber dual mount naval gun on Akagi:

3"/50 deck gun on Gato class (could also be a 5"/25, I can't tell):

I would also request that, once the guns are ready for 3D work, they be mounted high enough so they can "see over" any of the mounting pits seen here. As you can see in the picture, some of the current artillery isn't mounted high enough and sticks through the wall of the pit. Also, I do not believe they should be mounted on any type of large concrete slab or bunker. Let the mission maker put one underneath them if desired.

If anyone wants to work on this, please send me a PM. I don't know exactly how to do this kind of stuff myself, but I'm willing to learn and collaborate with someone on this.

I have been looking into this since reading your thread about your map this morning. I have never made on but have an idea of how to. I just need the meshes from the guns and their 3do's. We could clone the guns that Skipper made using his classfiles but need the files I just metioned to make the new objects.

If I May Add One More To This? From A Japanese DD 1941 version: Vickers Type 40mm Dual Purpose AT/AA Gun.
Actual Gun: For Land Use.

In Game Version: Shipboard For Land Use.

These were quite wicked as expected as can be witnessed in "The Fighting Lady" @ 31:44 Flight Group Leader had a direct hit in the cockpit from a 40mm shell and received over 200 facial wounds.

In IL-2 1946, IJN DD (Stock and MOD) never has Vickers 40mm gun.
Your game screenshot is Type96 25mm.

And in historical, IJN used Vickers 40mm on Nagato class BB (before modernized) and Hatsuharu class DD, Shiratsuyu class DD .... but they are all SINGLE.

TWIN 40mm were used on No.1-class submarine chaser and No.3-class submarine chaser.

Personally, I made IJN Single Vickers 40mm 3D....

but I don't have any base ship model to carry them.
