Neuschwabenland Update 1
« on: August 22, 2014, 12:04:49 AM »

Neuschwabenland is being released to all SAS members as a pre birthday release.
That is right I will be 49 on Saturday so I thought I'd show my appreciation to the community for this day the 23rd of August.

Neuschwabenland

THE MAP 4.12.2 5.3 SAS ModAct

Obtaining actual genuine DEM’s of Antarctica was a search in itself. I was able to find 5 areas of Antarctica. I used an area of Queen Maude Land as the basis of the map. In order to make the DEM for the map around 100 small files had to be joined to make the DEM.

This has been an on-going project over the last 6 months or so. I had to really get to know and understand the workings of a static.ini entry. Wanting something unique I raised an iceberg object by Uufflakke to create ice caves.
I created u boat bases and u boat/shipping/float plane bases. When testing a covered float plane base I noticed that the aircraft were affected by the iceberg objects at ground level and raised. The aircraft would not taxi to the parking stay points. You will take off successfully and land successfully however other aircraft will disappear on landing. That gives you lots of stationary planes that you can place as parked aircraft. The map has a covered float plane base and an uncovered float plane base which is totally functional. Naturally all u boat and shipping facilities have been covered and hidden.

There are a number of aspects to this map firstly to create a late war post war What If map of the area. This gives the map more game playability especially if you include Operation High Jump which occurred during 1947.
I wanted to give a front to all the secret bases and Station 211 which would just perceive research stations and whaling stations in a very primitive form using wood for all the structures. At a later date just an environment map with a number of seaplane strips will be made so you can go back to the expeditions of 38-39 hence were it all started from.

Making the U boat, shipping and float plane bases was very fun indeed, imagination gone crazy there for a while.
Station 211 is pretty much concealed except some of the structures will have to be repainted for further blending in to the local environment. I tried to give an impression that the actual base extends deep into and underground the mountain adjoining the base hence the re-enforced concrete area on the surface near the air strip. Naturally Station 211 is located in The Schirmacher Oasis an area void of ice and snow with warm water and fully functional lakes.

The obvious major task was placing a gazillion icebergs on the map some by hand and some by copy and paste to create more of an ice shelf situation This task at times could be very tiring only doing a couple of hours at a time. I think the glaciers actually turned out well with the iceberg objects used for them. There are still some areas that need detailing.

All seaplane ocean going strips start aircraft with four in a row as normal. As does the hidden seaplane strip.
The 2 lake strips start as they seem to do in 4.12.2 diagonally across the lake. Upon landing they are as normal one at a time.

The two strips at Station 211 is as follows;
The long airstrip planes start at the runway and diagonally across the field. They land as per normal a single aircraft and taxis to the runway end parking area.
The short strip is a one plane test strip only.
Be careful with your A1's you may lose the odd one to the nearby mountain.

A Part of the credits  ;D ;) in the word doc within the rar file

There are a number of credits that have to be given for textures, objects, other work involved and complete out of the blue surprises.
Objects

1) Max_theHitman

Max contacted me early this week regarding a number of stationary objects that should be made readily available to SAS Members. Max gave me a complete surprise with around 7 Vril stationary /hovering UFO’s and 2 green men.

As Max states from his read me .If Credit is to be given; for the landed "Vril" static-object should be written -
by Vital overdose and the conversion to the IL2+Mods game by SAS~GJE52. New skins and Template by MAX_theHitman.
The hovering/flying "Vril-7", I do not know who created it. New skins and Template by MAX_theHitman.
The 2 "Aliens" are just original in-game human static-objects and painted green. Nothing special, but at least it’s some "Little Green Aliens"
By the way, these things cannot be damaged or destroyed. No skins for them. Unless you create a new damaged + destroyed model for us.

2) HSFX Team (K5 bunker)

Sourcing this object via a thread from SAS~Epervier. He states that it was made by the HSFX Team. A very cool object not just for trains but also used as re enforced tunnel entrances for Station 211. The object does need a repaint though to really blend in with the local surroundings.

3) Larone

Bunker and fortification objects from his very old but very useful fortification objects pack. One will have to be repainted later again really to blend in with the environment.

4) Uufflakke

Three objects repainted as icebergs by Uufflakke. These three objects have played a major part with this map.
I raised one of the icebergs to different heights. SAS~ GJE52 tweeked all three icebergs with their lods so they would not be too poppy giving a larger field of view with mass icebergs.

5) Lynx23 Map Svalbard

Lynx23’s objects were invaluable for creating a couple of whaling stations.

Please read the credits listing. I still need to know who made the raised objects for CannonUK's jetty objects.

Please install the map and objects carefully.
Please add the all.ini to your maps all.ini listing.
Please add the static.ini entries to your static.ini entry listing.

Check to make sure you have all the objects used in this project.
If I have forgotten anything I will soon know  :D
If you have difficulties with it don't hesitate to call in.

Again thanks to Max for kindly donating the Vril static ufo's for this project.  ;) :)

Thanks for the birthday wishes Max  ;D

There are plenty of targets especially if your are a US Navy pilot in Operation High Jump.

Catch a u boat off guard looking for its secret base.
Search for and destroy a secret u boat base.
Obliterate research stations thinking they are scientific experimental stations.
Strike whaling stations to stop any remaining supplies of whale oil from leaving the Antarctic.
Do an area wide search to find and destroy it.
Catch transport shipping convoys off guard.

What a bridge in Neuschwabenland? It looks like it leads to nowhere but do a thorough search. You'll see.  :D (you need one on a map to make maps functional)

Hmmm Martin Mariner, C-47 with skis a number of scout float planes Gio's and Marks new fm Duck would come in handy as well as the sea plane tender.

Ever launched a C-47 with skis from an aircraft carrier and landing on ice. They were doing just that in Operation High Jump.

Cheers
Kirby

gotterdammerung, Kirby, i'm still looking to see what's wrong, but the map failed to load in FMB with the [Map2d] not found error.
i checked, and everything seemed in place, until i noticed the little typo with the map entry.
your entry is as follows: Neuschwabenland  Neuschwabenlad/load.ini
note the misisng 'n' from the map folder bit, hence the error.
so, the simple fix, for those who are wondering, is to just correct the little typo, so that it reads as follows: Neuschwabenland  Neuschwabenland/load.ini

Neuschwabenland  Neuschwabenland/load.ini

Yes that is the all ini entry just a typo.

Also thanks to Hi_Jack_24 via a Pm.
