Pit shield tint and various reflections P-51B/C, P-38J/L ...
« on: October 09, 2014, 08:38:04 PM »

Like mentioned in the other thread today.

A few playing exercises (hope more) to add what many Allied WWII planes and jets have:
A tinted front canopy/armor plate section.

For the P-51B/C there will be one version, have another on request, slightly brighter but not better.

For the P-38, that is an experiment more as the reflection has an issue with front parts where the armor plate would be and upside backend reflection sharing the same "entry" on the tga, tricky to say the least and thus rather experimental and buggy.
I left another reflection edit for the P-38 which does not have the special reddish yellow tint on the front but therefore overall changed and better IMO appearance than the Il-2 default.
That was the base also for the front shield tinted versions.

Enough talk, similar thing for F-86s to come.

P-51B/C.

Credit Ubi, Maddox, 335th_F_Red for base reflection.

Default IL-2 -a few parts visually overlapped inside the cockpit.

P-38J/L cockpit:

First, the version I liked best last night despite the buggy areas mentioned above.

Bugs also shown.

Not necessarily the best.

P-38J/L version with no reddish yellow front shield but overall saturation and colour increase:

P-38J/L version again with reddish to yellow front shield and a tad more red canopy overall

Put each mod of choice into your #SAS/#UP#/Mods folder. Deactivate with an "-" sign or simply delete.
..next to come F-86 center front more greenish, 2 versions, maybe P-51D.
..keep in mind master Jero prepares some presents 3D wise for Stangs and other planes. I also added some reflection to F6Fs and Jero to F-80s, WIP..
Keep in mind(2) strength and colour of reflections also depend on position relative to the sun heavily. Plus I am not Picasso.

Shots suck, tired. :P

If in doubt take V3 for the P-38s.
PS:
Sorry, the screens contain my provate for fun non historical full correct pit, cannot share the panel pinups since you know, copyright etc, simply forgot to delete tonight the pinup parts.
The front panel pinups are definately free to sue and contained with Jero and mine P-38 3D posts. Aka availlable..here:

SAS/Visuals/3D fix.  :P

Hi Thorst and thks for these mods, subtle but very nice indeed! One small request if I may: those P-38 pits look beautifula, where can I get them?
Have a nice day and thks anyway in advance!

 Cool effect.

But one question, on the second and third P-38 pic, is that Steve from Minecefts' face on the wing?

Gianluca

That's my custom and I was too tired to use stock shots.

SAS visitors can get most if here:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42511.0.html

The rest is my private and non historical repaint and an additional TGA for private use, will replace pics maybe.

Aka the rest I use is my own freaky taste and definately not historical.

Thorst.  ;)

You are welcome. ;)

P-51D:

V2

You have to manually put this into your P-51D folder of choice, see below:

I recommend to download Jeronimo's mod here:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42511.0.html

And PS_Jeronimo's Visuals mods here:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42916.0.html

And put my reflections from this thread inside each cockpit folder, or you will most likely not get my mods correctly if you use both mods.

Best rename the entire thing to !_Cockpits_JeroXYZ_mod   and put it on top of the loadlist that way.
E.g. gather all of Jeronimo's great 3D fixes and put the reflections mods of your choice in the corresponding folder.

..my changes here for P-51Ds are rather marginal, enhanced saturation and contrast a tad and IMHO V1 is best. V2 is a tad less bright and more blue. Targetting the inner front shield was impossible, so I took the overall canopy reflection. No shots this time. :) ;)

A standalone P-51Dlate cockpit mod including the tinted front.
Put the part containing the pits into Mods or #SAS etc. E.g. also into #UP#.

The other files contain options.

Me...rest

You can play withn the front shield colour, as in options of this pack.

AND, you can play with the strength of the reflection.tga and glass.tga (for overall cockpit reflection) by opening its mat files.
But that is for advanced chaps.
Set the strength for refl.aka the front inner canopy shield to
Shine 0.06

And the glass.tga to
Shine 0.4

Default is

Shine 0.0

I think the values I chose make an optimum performance vs too bright or too soft also accounting sun positions rel. to view.

Some shots:

You can choose either greenish or orange greenish

Take care when mixing this mod with Jeronimo's other P-51D mods, I found it was best to use this special one as standalone.
Also take care when using the Freddy cockpit mod from the other area, best only use either of these P-51D-20(K-14)  pits, take your pick.

So:
Make sure there is no cockpit mesh/hier.him etc conflict.
The P-51D pits here are self containing.

Here is a little addition, made for P-51B and P-51Cs, according to RL videos and walkarounds I have researched.

On some it appeared, e.g. here:

That is a sublte reddish tint on the center and upper center front canopy, but not as strong as I saw it on the green P-51A center part.

So here is my take..it is tailored for the Freddy P-51B/C pits and so far works in 4.09m and in 4.12 it looked odd, sorry for this.

https://www.mediafire.com/download/ksso1kn7c7o70uo/!_Cockpit_canopy_reflection_P51BC.rar

The reason it looked odd on my MA 5.3 4.12 install is there must be another P-51 cockpit mod which conflicts.
