spectacular tank stunt
« on: October 24, 2014, 08:44:00 AM »

Russian movie from 1939 named "tanks".

Although I do not understand ony one single word
I sometimes watch this movies. And found this one.  ;D

starting with ~ 55' you will see a spectaculatr way how tanks
(T-26s I think) can cross a river with a scarp riverbank ...  :P

Plastic kit models. That scenes are made with tank models at scale. Check it.

plastic model tanks? with working tracks? circa 1939?
hmm, not so sure about that, although this does seem a bit extreme for a tank.
you can see the tanks are supported by some sort of rope/cable setup, as well, which might explain how this could be done. certainly, no tank should be able to do that by itself, even in modern times that would be pretty tricky....

Real machines, for sure!
When scale models are used, the surrounding scene usually looks like a diorama, and that's not the case.
Guess the footage was taken during some russian army maneuver in which that technique was tested and/or implemented.

Do you mean those cables that are supporting the tanks?

exactly at 59' 35'' a man is seen running in the scene.

I don't think that there is a crew inside the tanks,
they are moved with the cables only when crossing
the river I assume. (although some kind
of engines smoke is seen ...).

Anyway: to me its a well done stunt,
and so is the title of this thread.  ;)

 in one of the scenes.

57:30 the second tank is actually held in mid air by the cables towing it

Anyone speak Russian? The cables are so blatant I assume they are showing this is how they get their tanks over terrain obstacles.
