Black Sea VMF aviation map 1941-1944
« on: December 15, 2014, 05:51:56 AM »

Hi everybody!
At november started to make maps pack for Black sea fleet aviation support in 1941-1944 (6 IAP VMF, 23 shap, 9giap,11 giap, 40bap, MTAPs & other regiments) . Can not find fotos & history  about the Sulina port on the Danube as of 1940-1944 years, I do not know Romanian language. Need photos of those years the port of Constanca, Sulina, Tulcha that historically put the buildings on the streest (& history fotos of this citys buildings needs too) . I would be grateful for links to related resources.

Thank you so much for your attention, Cat,  always  when it is possible to use this source . The question was more to the English-speaking IL2 fans from Romania  (if they are here),  I guess they better know where and how to look for photos of historic cherchs, buildings & structures in Constanta, Tulcea and Sulina with  location in the city streets.

P.S.: sorry, guys, Mandrillas SU map supports march better for Battle of Nikopol reconstruction as finding.

Thanks for the response, Bogdan :).
1.Need historical city plans (1940-1944) Constanta, Sulina and Tulcea, those from the site "photos of World War II" I already have. Or using the latest plans show on its the old boundaries of these three cities, just to coincide historical scheme of streets.
2.Need historical photos of churches, buildings and structures in these cities at 1940-1944 time, their location in order to properly locate it on the map then.
Major task 4 me: to make this city & sea-river ports historically similar and recognizable as possible using the Il2 default objects.
Even if I could find myself some historical photos of buildings in these three cities, still will not know where they stand and how they focus on the streets. It needs an expert on Romania.
Cheers!

I will ask some people, which can help, about those plans today

Meanwhile I found a wartime album from Constanta
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.116847795097038.20331.115707885211029&type=3

If you need translation Just paste the text here and I'll do.

Aerial pictures from Constanta

Buildings from Contanta
http://constanta-imagini-vechi.blogspot.ro/p/constanta-aspecte-militare.html

Crop of a wartime map of Contanta

On the top part it says "headquarters of the 5th teritorial corps"

Here are some Luftwaffe aerial photos of Constanta, Tulcea and few other cities (you can drag the old pic over the new one)
http://aedificium.rockhall.ro/category/then-now/

As you can see those cities look almost the same as they were back in the 40s. Only noticeable things are the communist grey flats built after the war. So I guess you can look on google earth too to make an idea about the boundaries of the cities.

Just got a reply from Tulcea Eco-Museal Reasearch Institute and their partners.
It seems they will search their archive for maps aerial photos and building photos from ww2 and interbelic period since they have many of them :)

Still rework  Mandrillas 1950 SU map to winter 1943-44 (mach better for Nikopolis battle & all 8 & 17 AF VVS operations then my Up.map i killed erly):
http://forum.aviaskins.com/showpost.php?p=137543&postcount=30
About this one http://forum.aviaskins.com/showpost.php?p=138017&postcount=31 - "I'll be back" after.

Toobone, I have made winter texes for both Ukraine maps. As well, I did some work on SU before my computer crashed and it now has a 99% finished 1943 version with more population.

I can give you the winter texes and load.inis in the next couple of weeks. The 1943 rework will take a little longer. I am still putting my game back together after my computer rebuild.

Mates have a choice now! Now finished reworking september 1941 tex & repopulating some cities at your map  by this history period. Than - october 1943, early spring 1944 later spring 1944. If your tex full snow - may be good for one weeks at february 1944 ( there was a very warm winter).
Cheers

The version will be light snow and the Central Ukraine map will have a choice of frozen rivers or unfrozen liquid water.

IIRC, winter 1944 had the Dnepr frozen at Kherson for a period of time though.
