installation woes
« on: January 06, 2015, 06:06:45 PM »

Im not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, although I've spent quite a lot of time searching the web for an answer, but I'm having issues installing 1946 from CD.

I'm running
2.9Ghz quad core
Radeon 6670-2GB graphics card
Win 7 64 Bit

When I go to install the game into C:/IL2 (I followed the 64 bit advice), it takes a very long time to open the application and cycle through the checklist. Then when I get to the green installation screen I get to 21% (removing applications) and then it just sits there spinning its wheels for ages until I finally get an error message that reads: Data error (cyclic redundancy check) and when I click OK I get an Error - 1603 message and then the installation closes.

I'm the farthest thing from tech savvy so I don't really know what I'm supposed to do. Any help getting this installed would be greatly appreciated!

cheers

Thanks vpmedia, I should have said I'd seen that thread and tried the 1033 folder option. Still sticking at 21% even though the disk is clean, and I ran it as an administrator.

Unfortunately I don't have a second computer that I can install it on and then cut and paste across the game into the new computer  :(

Is your 1946 DVD is bought in 2013 or more ago?

In those time DVD contains Secu-Rom copy protect system and it often brings problems with some DVD drive and Windows7/8 like needs very long time or files to install.

I heard from 2013Late or 2014's DVD is Secu-Rom free and no problems on Windows7/8.
Or buy one more lisence from online shop like gog or Steam.

Thanks western0221. Yeah my copy is a few years old now so that may be the problem. Although, I did try and copy the contents of the CD over to the hard drive and install from there but when I did the cab1 file only copies half way and then I get an error message the file could not be read. There is no damage to the CD so I'm guessing it is a case of start again with a new disk...

There should be a sticky about this Secu-Rom stuff.
