I am getting the same problem as Gumpy, as a bomb hits the ground the game just freezes. I am not getting an error message, but have to reboot to get out of the game. Rockets are fine and cause no problems. Also i have noticed that when i open the bomb bay doors, they close of thier own accord after a few seconds. I have no idea where to look for conflicts as i am not using jsgme at the moment (waiting for 4.10 to do a reinstall), and my mod folder is quite expansive.
When i disable the mod all the above work fine. Its a shame because some of the effects look great, one minor observation, does any one think the white smoke emitted from the aircraft when damaged has a bit of a green tint to it?

hoping for solution somehow

regards

slipper

Yes it definitely has a green tint to it,which TGA file to edit I don't know yet but, will let you know.

S!

AED, sounds great if you can really pull this off. DirectX mode is not bad either if it just had the looks OpenGL has. And DirectX has less problems with ATI.

We going to make new Il2 Engine modification.. to correct it for DirectX...
There s allway problems with FPS and aby perfomance... cause IL 2 os OpenGL =(((

Could something be done for the way too high CPU load over big cities and when lots of objects are visible?
At least for me that is the worst performance problem with my Q6600 CPU.
Perhaps some support for multi-core CPUs would be more useful than new graphics rendering mode.
First, object rendering could be threaded and then perhaps AI planes to get large air battles with quad-core CPU.

Maybe I'm dreaming something impossible.

@ Aed

I think I have pinpointed the freezing problem. It seems that the game is freezing because of this file. (72DCDDF4D2AD25E8) Once this file is removed the freezing problem goes away. The bad news is... a lot of the fire effects don’t work without this file. I tested this several times and the results were always the same. I did a quick (Armor) mission on the Okinawa map. I took four wingmen along. Loaded up with bombs and rockets in an F4U. In order to see the freeze let the wingmen drop first. Thin I attacked a bridge using rockets or bombs and the game would freeze every time. But once I removed the (72DCDDF4D2AD25E8) file the freeze went away. I don’t think that this problem is related to any video card issue as some have thought. To me it looks like the freeze problem might be linked to the bridges in the class file somehow. I think that would be a good place to look.

Would someone remove the (72DCDDF4D2AD25E8) file and run a quick mission and tell me if the freeze goes away for you too?

I think you have the Fat_Man_Litle_Boy_Fix for B29 Silverplate.
Try to disable it, but perhaps you can't see the nuclear effect.

Pulled the file out and can confirm the freezing goes away but, like you said some of the fire and I think some of the smoke effects go away.Wish I knew how to edit it to just take out the bombs ground explosion effect and leave the fire and smoke effects.

HI,

great effects, no FPS loss ...thanks a lot  ;D!

@ Gumpy: you can change the color by editing the*.eff file with noteped (search for Color0 and Color1 lines in [General] section, and replace the numbers to change the color).

Just to confirm i have taken the file out (72DCDDF4D2AD25E8), and the game runs ok. Now we have to find what else is conflicting with this, that we all have in common.

This mod could really do with some documentation. It would be very nice to customise.

The smoke, reduced AA gun muzzle flash, plumes of earth (especially for the 30mm), building fires are very nice.

IMHO, the airplane & vehicle fire, incinendriary bullet impact flash overdone, aircraft and tank muzzle flash, ricochets and the brightness of explosions (especially anti-aircraft fire) are all overdone.

During the daytime it is usually impossible for the human eye to see atmospheric ignition as more than a quick flash.

But thanks for the work all the same.

@ Aed

No, there is no "Mod" conflict. The freeze happens even if the mods folder is minused out. I tested this by disabling my mods folder and copying the file from this mod into my "files" folder. (I have a backup game so it’s no problem for me to over write any files in my files folder). Then I went in game and the freeze happened again even though no mods were activated at all. There is definitely something wrong with this file. My game is UP 2.0 and the same file is already in the files folder and my game runs fine with the file that comes with UP 2.0. The freeze only happens when the file from this mod is used.

Would someone else try running your game like I just did to see if your game still freezes. Don’t forget to make a backup of the file in your files folder.
