Which tail code had the Hiryu A5M4-D1A-B4Y in 1939-40?
« on: March 03, 2015, 02:42:36 AM »

Hi mates!

I was looking to the tail code of the A5M4 to make some companion skins for the Soryu brothers.

In the net I find this page:

http://japanese-aviation.forumeiros.com/t50-12-september-1940-to-december-28-1940

In 1940 the Soryu planes have the code QI and Hiryu have QII....but I can't find nothing about 1939 when Soryu have the W....

Anyone have some more source about?

Maybe a couple of photo that can give also an idea of the livery....just to confirm something like the drawings:

Can also be confirmed that the D1A and B4Y had the numerical part of the code in the 200 and 300 range respectively?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I hope to give you some skins in the next couple of days while I'll survey my PC working in compressing sfs files....

IJN Sources are scarse. I know they exist, in japanese Publications,  :\'( Give us, we want them... :(
but so far none found the way to us. These are old Books you can find for lot of Yen in Japan.
Publishers:
Bunrin-do (80s)
AIR WORLD INC. (80s)
Kesaharu Imai (1990)

The last one is excellent regarding the quality of prints, sources.

It's just another Post away from your source:
http://japanese-aviation.forumeiros.com/t53-09-china-war-1938

I looked up my Claude & so far IJN books, the same pictures, but telling you all the way
unknown Kokutai,... unknown Unit. Location unknown...
http://japanese-aviation.forumeiros.com has relatively more Info collected,
seems reliable though that website.
Tough topic, very rarely executed.
Wishing you all the best
