Can someone give me a heads up on a fix for the AI crashing into the ground or mountains?

This post here is for more planes on carrier,
but the part about replacing the EngMod should
help to avoid the AI ground crash.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,45582.msg509707.html#msg509707

So as first step replace the EngMod only and
give it a try.

replacing the whole enginemod of WAW might have bad side effects. i am not sure if it was meant to, or happens because of a bug, but there is a version of the engine mod that modifies either bullet strength/power or armour strength... with the result of almost useless japanese 20mm cannons. this was the case in TFM and made it almost useless for me. i was worried about this in CUP too, but interestingly the included version of the engine mod for WaW does NOT produce this effect.

creature, sorry this reply is to a question about a week old but I just saw it while searching for something else   :P

Anyway, I've got good news and bad news.  First, the "Open/Close Side Hatch works on some planes.

Dpeters:

OMG, that's so funny.  I've posted that question numerous times over the months and it seems to default into a black hole somewhere, no one ever answers it:))))  It's more of a habit now to post it once a month, never expecting a reply :)  Thanks so much for answering it.  I will check it out on the Spitfire.  Yes, I have the same problem with mapping the key.  It doesn't save either.  weird.

Still LMAO

Dennis,
I can confirm the Key to Open Hatch dose not save when you exit IL2.  It is listed under  CUP\Users\doe\setings.ini\[HotKey pilot]  but after restarting the game it has reset to "nothing" if you go look in  Controls {but still listed in the Settings.ini}
Tried to copy the setting into the Default file {in case it was being reloaded form there}  but it made no difference.
All entries in the files are there - but in game the setting is removed.
As you say Creature   Weird..  :)

Thanks for the heads up on the Engine mod  SAS~Gerax  I will give it a try and see if it helps.

as you know this bug better than me please try and
report if this bug occurs with this patched EngMod.  ;)

Thanks for the heads up on the Engine mod  SAS~Gerax  I will give it a try and see if it helps.

Please give some feedback when you have tried this.

It doesn't help: Monty eventually must patch the CUPs EngMod
as the AI ground-crash issue must be solved. And for this he will need any report available. What I put together is nothing more than default EngMod with latest Western patch. Maybe some one has a better idea, but its the only solution I found so far.

Hunter, please next time give more details.
Have you tried to add a mod?, what exactly does not work?
Gettinga a CTD? in wich module .. etc.

Just to post the log isn't enough.

And when posting your log, use the code option next time please.
read here how to do this:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=39780.0

so far I see that your game cant load the P-51B5.
As its part of CUP #WAW what have you done?

Please give some feedback when you have tried this.

Sorry to say  SAS~Gerax,

The mod made no difference to the mission.
They all take off and crashed in the very same place....  12 P-38’s taxi to take off  -  actually climbed out and then dive for the ground...

creature and Rod, thank you for confirming the Open/Close Side Hatch problem.  I have tried a bunch of things by modifying the "settings.ini" file but no joy.  It saves the key to the file but it just won't reload it.  :(

I looked in the stock v4.12.2m and I don't see "Open/Close Side Hatch" control even listed although it is in my settings.ini file???

Good God Gentlemen!!!

That key is spooked :)   After all this time I finally got it to work!!!!  I reloaded the game and, POOOF!!  The entire command line is gone.  I dropped the backup settings in and all, still gone.  It did work once though :) :)

re-post#1354 and #1355

Hi Sir Rod, and Gerax,
I have found the same problem of AI flying into the ground and if you place your aircraft in auto at start of the mission this will
also fly into the ground.
I found this out after flying a mission(built for use with another mod using the Sands of Time map) and making sure it was ok to use (no missing objects etc)
then changing from all in line on the runway start to taxing from a side area to the start of the runway then taking off.
The aircraft climb out ok then slowly drop down even though the speed increases until they hit the ground.
Even tried using the other end of the runway same effect.
I am about to try to do a mission from fresh to see if it still happens.
Cheers edc1 (stan)

Edc1,
I am sure SAS~Gerax may jump in here as he fixed this  with a new Engine mod

Minus out your existing Engine mod in WAW  and  add directly  this one

https://www.mediafire.com/download/9rgh6q26mnqj24n/!_SAS_Engine_Mod_patch_western_20150114.7z

Your  #WAW folder  should then look like this :

Should stop the AI  diving  into the ground -  but we don't know yet if there are any side effects.  :-\

Only time will tell.

Least wise  - give it a try and see if it solves your  issue.

Thanks to SAS~Gerax for the time and effort on this.
