If you use the TARGET programming feature you can combine the MFDs to a single USB device. Create a profile, add the MFDs, assign keys or buttons and run the profile

So I'll put that back on the huge "todo" pile and try to find a way to kick up the device ID for my stick combo.
Thanks Mike, if anyone can find a way around this it will be you  :D :D

I will investigate that option, many thanks.

Perhaps we might consider creating a forum dedicated to controller/virtual cockpit issues.. if the community feels there is a need for it of course....  ;)

I'm very glad you put it back on todo list ;D ;)

I think it is worth to trying out something because i can imagine there are a lot more people
with more devices or self made Cockpits out there.
They will be very happy.

Unfortunately, I can not program ::( but I am ready to test if you have done something

I have 6 devices
selfmade cockpit with 4 x (JW24A8L, 4 Axis, 16 buttons) (used also for BOS and CloD)
1 x Joystick
and a Raceingwheel because I use the pedals of it as rudder(sometimes I also do online raceing).

Best regards - Germy ;)

No, I don't think that is strictly accurate. From what I have found, TARGET does not appear to "combine" controllers, it creates a combined profile that still comprises individual controllers....

Having experimented with it, this is not an option as far as I can tell as IL2 can only see 4 controllers, regardless of the profile generated by TARGET.

IL2, unlike most newer flight sims,  just sees the first 4 in the list and then ignores the rest.    :(

I can use more than 4 USB Controllers with IL2 1946. The Trick is using 2 programs:
For the Axisbinding I use Yadeli: http://yadeli.nuvturais.de/
and for Buttonscontroll JoyToKey http://joytokey.net/en/.
I wrote a little batch file to start it all. If anybody needs assistent in using these programs or with a batchfile pm me and I will answer here.

Sounds very promising and it's apparently built exactly for the purpose being discussed here.
For the time being, as long as IL-2 doesn't provide native support for more than 4 devices, this seems a viable workaround.

Just downloaded the manual, here is the intro....

Quote
YaDeLi
„Yet another Device Link for IL-2“
What YaDeLi does:
? Connects game controller axes with controls inside IL-2 (using IL-2s
DeviceLink).
? Supports user defined profiles (collections) of such connections (e.g. one for
single engine fighters, another for a twin engined Mosquito, ...).
? Supports the following controls in IL-2:
Ailerons
Brakes
Elevator
Flaps
Power
Power Left Engines
Power Right Engines
Propeller Pitch
Propeller Pitch Left Engines
Propeller Pitch Right Engines
Rudder
Trim Ailerons
Trim Elevator
Trim Rudder
? Supports up to 8 axes for each game controller and an unlimited number of
game controllers.
? Offers a fix for the „G940 Reversal Bug“.
What YaDeLi doesn‘t do:
? It doesn‘t support game controller buttons (do use AutoHotkey, it‘s open source
and almost perfect).
? It doesn‘t read from DeviceLink (would be useless online, anyway).
YaDeLi has been made for:
? Those of us, who use more than the 4 game controllers that IL-2 supports.
? Those owners of a Logitech G940 Flight System who have not yet modded the
„Reversal Bug“ away.
? Those owners of a Logitech G940 Flight System who have modded the
„Reversal Bug“ and have found that the modded pedals will not show under
„Game Controllers“, but will still block ID3 within IL2 ....

I agree, it looks very promising ...  ;)

That would be a great help. A short brief here of how you set it up would at least help guys get to the point where they can start asking questions.   :D

Giving support and discussing issues  here in an open forum will stop your inbox from being overwhelmed with similar questions...

Ok, so I will try... 1st: sorry for my poor english!
2nd: dont have much time now... just a few hints!
The instructions for yadeli you can find on his website (edit your conf.ini according your yadeli settings).
For online play you need a devicelink mod, as most functions of devicelink does not work online. You can find this or a similar mod also on this forum:

Here a picture where you can see how my 5 devices are found.
Its possible to make different profiles, like one for single engine aircraft, one for two engines, one for three engines...

For joytokey you also can make profiles for different games (I payed for joytokey, dont know about limitations in free version) and also let start a specific profile when a game starts

Here an example for my button 2 on my Joystick 4 (G940 Throttle). When I press the button short, the map opens, when I hold it for more than a second, the fullscreen maps open- according to my settings in IL2:

At last a picture of a simple batch file to open different tools before IL2.
Just make a new .txt file on your desktop. Write everything into it and save it as IL2Batch.bat:

P.S. G940 users should really use also MULTI-THROTTLE 4.0 by MikkOwl!

It does indeed combine the 2 MFD devices to a single device on my computer. I have a Logitech Force 3D, a Logitech G25 wheel & pedals, a CH Yoke & Throttle quadrant and 2 Cougar MFDs. The CH controllers are programmed as a combined device, the MFDs as another combined device, so all 6 controllers work just fine as they are reported as only 4.

After some experimenting ...  and realizing that you need to run the TARGET profile while you are running IL2  :-[  I found that some of the buttons on my Warthog throttle were no longer able to be assigned from the IL" control panel when both MFDs were running. Is this normal ?

I'm not sure what happens if you have a Thrustmaster stick & throttle along with the MFDs (since I use Logitech and CH controllers), but initially I lost the CH controller when I connected both MFDs. Windows reported 5 game controllers (1. TM MFD1 , 2. TM MFD2, 3. Logitech G25, 4. Logitech Force 3D and 5. CH controller device #1), but none of the buttons/axis on the CH controller was recognized in IL2.
So, I created the TARGET profile and added the MFDs to that. With that profile running, Windows reports 4 controllers (the MFDs as a single TM device), and IL2 recognizes all controllers and buttons on every device.

Have you tried to:

1. Include the MFDs +  Thrustmaster stick and throttle in one single TARGET profile and see how many controllers Windows reports and assign buttons through that profile. Apparently there's a limitation of 32 DirectX buttons + 8 axes + POV for one uSB gaming device, which would make you run out of DX buttons quite fast.
The alternative is to program keystrokes to most buttons instead of DX buttons and configure IL-2 to use the keystrokes.

2. Run the TM stick + throttle in native DX mode, the MFDs as a TARGET device..is that reported as 4 devices by Windows ? Including the rudder pedals ?
Can a TARGET profile for some TM devices run alongside "native" TM devices ?
