A campaign question (relates to CUP)
« on: March 18, 2015, 01:13:23 PM »

I didn't know exactly where to ask this, so if you deem me to be in the wrong place, tell me and I'll try someplace else.  Anyhow, here goes - I play the campaign TFM-412 Battle of Britain and I moved it into my CUP install.  A couple of the missions wouldn't work, so I tried first loading them into FMB (that fix was told to me by my old friend Mad Dog a while ago) and then exiting out.  That advice worked in TFM pretty much, but when I tried it in CUP, I got a little dialog block on the screen saying something like "Chief's type ships.  HMSFlower2Corvette doesn't exist" and that I need to manually edit the mis. file to replace the object.  What in the world is it telling me, and where would the file come from to "manually" edit it?  Thank you for any advice.  This is something new and I am curious.  Just looking for any help, although I am not really sure whether it even effects my playing of that campaign.  I guess I can just skip over that mission if need be.

yeah the joys of adapting campaigns to new mod standards :)
Poltava and me have just made the MB-152 campaign fully CUP compatible and I can tell you that was an interesting experience;
there must be loads of campaigns out there that could need adaption to higher mod standards;
what you ran into is a vehicle thats not part of CUP or one that has acquired a different name in the meantime in the internal mod structure;
in the case of the Flower Corvette I can tell you that it is not included in CUP natively so you would have to add it manually; IIRC I tried to add the corvettes to CUP but failed with a 70% crash due to incompatible classfiles me thinks;
I did not have the time to properly test some classfile combinations back then, but adding more ships to my modded WAW is high on my still to do list...

Simon, if you read this, pls give us more ships to play with :)
and more aircraft :)

Thank you for your response.  Things like you spoke of e.g. Classfiles, mod structures, etc., confuse the heck out of me.  But then when you are seventy plus years old confusion is, sadly,  pretty much my normal state.  I will just wait for you really smart guys to lead me in the right direction.  Thanks again.

Thank you very much for your offer.  It sometimes gets pretty embarrassing to ask the questions I do, because I know that smart folks like yourself are gonna see them.  But you guys have always been very helpful, even when the queries you are seeing aren't too bright.  Thanks again.  I'm sure you'll be hearing from me again.

Hiya Bob, I don't know for sure this was the mission you were talking about with the missing corvette.

Mission 17 of Monty's BoB set:

https://www.mediafire.com/download/tot1mu9l1e9u161/BoB17.mis

Just overwrite BoB17 in Missions/Single/GB/1940_The_Battle_of_Britain in your CUP install.

I have replaced the Corvette with a different similar ship.

See if that works for you.

Hey Hamm - thanks for the reply.  You have helped me in the past.  It is still greatly appreciated.  I did as you said.  The "Corvette" thing wasn't asked, but now it was some sort of "Trawler", same message just a different ship.  Man I'm starting to feel like I am back in the USN (of course, I retired from the Navy back in 1982 so that is going back some).  Anyway, thank you for the info.  I'll just wait until all your buddies and yourself get it all squared away for us dummies.  Thanks again.

Hi if you don't want to track down all the missing objects, quickest way is to replace missing object with one that you do have (as said above) and the quickest way to do that is with Notepad ++. Use the 'find and replace' function and point it at your campaign file and it will replace all occurrences in all missions. Or point it at your campaign folder and replace the object in all missions in all campaigns!

You can do a find-only first before you replace, to check which missions will be affected

http://notepad-plus-plus.org/

And if you want to check what is missing without going into each mission and console, look here:
