I'm gonna replace a bunch of buildings with one. The most suitable objects are the Paris city blocks made by CanonUK for his English Channel map, I'll make three new versions with different skins and use these to repopulate most of the inner city. I'm also gonna reduce the amount of 3d trees. New city textures need to be made because the stock ones are quite unrealistic.

I am testing HSFX 7 now and I cant get my test track to work possibly because the Berlin Map is not in the QMB and I dont know how to mod HSFX yet. I set up the Berlin map in FMB and did the same as in my test track and so far I have not seen frame rates drop below 18 FPS with vis distance on high and the conf.ini and control panel setting the same as for CUP. With CUP my lowest FPS was 4.

Ok if you are still interested I have some results. I could not get my old test track to work in HSFX so I made another one which went longer and involved 4 minutes flying low over Berlin with plenty of hookviews JSGME was HSFX+Hakenkreuz Enabler+Perfect Map Textures.

My result
Frames: 11914 - Time: 235780ms - Avg: 50.530 - Min: 14 - Max: 64. On CUP with VisibilityDistance=3(High) my minimum was 4 FPS

Then i added Tigers Flybys mod through JSGME and got this; Frames: 10072 - Time: 235592ms - Avg: 42.752 - Min: 12 - Max: 64. A drop in both minimum and average frame rate, now my puter has inboard sound not a seperate sound card so I am wondering if the Tiger's Sound Mod which operates by default in CUP might be the problem? Especially if you dont have a dedicated sound card.

#2

CUP has a mod or several mods which impact the game performance. These mods need to be identified and removed from the pack. Since we dont have a CUP filelist.txt to extract files only the author can do this fix. I'd start with checking sound/effects/game engine mods.

So.....I dont have CUP but maybe if you are having stutter problems you could add a mod that restores the default IL-2 sounds and overrides tiger's Sound mod and see if it improves frame rate??? just a thought because I am definitely getting better FPS on HSFX.

Not really possible or necessary, Tigers sounds are not heavy (I have integrated sound card and I haven't noticed any fps drop compared to stock sound) beside, Tigers sounds are so deeply integrated they act like drivers between different mods.
Although the most important reason to not touch them is plain and simple sound quality, the best soundmod I ever heard in any game and it fits IL2 so well.

Anyway, as I promised, different air.ini for C.U.P World at War module, to enable/disable via jsgme.

@ dsmith71

Your conf.ini shows that your sound settings are totally wrong for UV3 (Tigers Flybys) ...  ;)

Especially since you don't have a "proper" sound card ...   :-[

... so instead of:

SamplingRate=2  <=== replace with =1
NumChannels=3  <=== replace with =4

After changing the values, save and exit, launch the game, fly a mission for a few seconds and exit the game and check your conf.ini ...

If NumChannels=3 is back, then you have a prob somewhere, may be outdated sound drivers or else ...

EDIT:

Just read the rest of your conf.ini, in the OpenGL section you have two very demanding settings

Forest=3  <=== try =2

Effects=2  <=== try =1

As far as I know there's no 4.12 version for the UV3 soundmod yet. If there's one then I need (a link) to test it in SAS modact 5.3. I remember trying it in 4.10 DBW but the flyby sounds sometimes went away and the flak was not audible even when it exploded 10 meters from my plane and I was unable to fix these problems. It also increased my loading times which I noticed after its uninstall. I havent tested its fps impact but it can have some due to java errors in the 4.12 enviroment. Currently Jivers soundmod is my prefered choice for 4.12.

The sfs file which has the sounds needs to be removed + a file called 'buttons' needs to be added from modact 5.3, then it should revert to stock sounds...in theory. :)

The buttons file in CUP is the one that comes with Modact 5.3 but not the 10.5 test which fixes a few jet bugs like overheating.

I can't locate the class that allows using the setting NumChannels=4 for UV3 (AudioDevice.class/24F1DC2A4AD9FA76) in CUP.

Sun is shining so bughunting can wait..

... this class is essential for the game to be able to play 64 channels at the same time instead of the stock 32 channels max ...

This prevents samples from not being played , for ex when there are lots of sounds in a heavy mission (lots of AC + ships + tanks + AA etc ... firing at the same time ...)

Here it is:

Hello Mick;
The purpose of the demanding graphics settings was to show how much better HSFX runs (min 12 FPS) compared to CUP (min 4 FPS). lower graphic settings made no difference with CUP but i will have a look at all your suggestions when I get a chance. Weekends are always better for this sort of thing.

I had Sound issues with tiger's sound mod such as crackling speakers which makes my wonder that my inboard sound cant handle it i have the latest sound driver for this board. Also with HSFX and tiger's flybys i sometimes lose external sound completely.

Which sampling rate did you had set?
I remember Tiger's sounds crackling on sampling rate of 44KHz but working well on 22KHz.
