Rocket Men

This is a campaign I made over the last several months that features a strong storytelling element. I missed that from many of the campaigns that I'd downloaded.

The player will fly as the fictional character Ansgar Mann, piloting a Me-163 Komet in covert operations to stop the atomic bomb from being used on Germany.

The missions are short, by virtue of the Komet's limited fuel supply, but they are extremely varied. They can also become difficult near the end of the campaign, so it might be wise to switch the "No Instant Success" difficulty option to OFF.

Here's the full introduction, copied from the mission4today database entry:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Late 1945. Hitler and his generals are being more judicious than we've known them to be, and have delayed Operation Barbarossa in lieu of building up the Reich's war machine. This is made possible due to a glut of natural resources discovered in Hungary and Romania. The war is dragging on, and the Allied nations are becoming impatient with Germany's resistance.

There are reports of a new type of bomb.

Germany's ambition won't be threatened. This new weapon seems to be slated for deployment north, in Allied Norway, where bombers will presumably carry it southeast, to Berlin. In order to combat this Sword of Damocles, Germany contracts test pilot Ansgar Mann to head north and join with covert unit Daumengeschwader 5 in the heart of enemy territory, to destroy the threat of the bomb from the inside. He will be flying the Me-163 Komet, a plane equipped with a rocket engine for a motor. Originally designed as a bomber interceptor, the Komet is repurposed here as a strike fighter, an assassination tool too fast and too novel for local fighters to counter.

This is Operation Supernova, Ansgar Mann's journey to the nucleus of mankind on the back of a rocket.

This campaign features a strong emphasis on narrative. There are 34 missions, spanning all types. As in a video game, mission objectives must be completed before landing, and most missions become progressively more difficult to complete as the player dives deeper into Operation Supernova's trials and tribulations. (For this reason, it may be wise to turn off the "No Instant Success" difficulty option in order to skip missions that are too difficult or frustrating.) There is also an emphasis on scoring, with plenty of opportunities for the enterprising player to climb the ranks and reach for medals. A score of 17,000 should be attainable by campaign's end.

There are three versions of this campaign available:
"4.08-4.10" = The basic version of this campaign.
"4.11" = Features reduced AI skill, to compensate for the increased accuracy of the new shooting model. Adjustments to night mission flight times have also been made, to keep the amount of light the same as in the earlier versions. Pe-8 skins are in high-resolution graphics.
"4.12" = As in 4.11, with the C-47 skin now employed, as it can now be displayed stationary, on the ground.

Z_B,

This campaign sounds very intriguing. I will surely give it a try. Thanks for your efforts. There is nothing that I like better in a campaign than a good story.
